Generally you want the board to be longer than you. :P
Answer #1 dosn't sound right to me.
And if you are a beginner you should get a long board. They are the biggest (generally 8ft) and are easy to manouver for those just starting out.

Yes, it should go by your height and experience. My 10 year old uses a 8 ft. soft top he is a beginner and is about 4 ft.2 in tall.

well it depends...r u just learning to surf if so u should get a longer and wider board.. its better for balancing.. if your more of an advanced surfer and u want to do trix and stuff and shorter board is definetely better because it turns better and goes faster especailly on big waves...and if you want to just relax and ride the wave a longer board is better
