That is really ridiculous, why would you want to do that? I don't drink and at the same time i would'nt be able to recite the alphabet backwards especially in front of a police officer. Sounds like your just trying to make something hard for someone so you can arrest them. Go out and find the drug dealers, and the real drunk drivers at the beer store, and quti taking people to jail because they can't say the alphebet backwards!!You make all officers look bad.

Any test given by a police officer is considered legit, if they want to give you one. The reason they demonstrate if first is so the person give the test can't say they did not understand, when it's on video tape of the police officer showing the idiot how to do it.

most sober people can't recite the alphabet backwards.
so if an officer is looking for reason to search a car or take a suspect in for a breath test, asking a subject to recite the alphabet backwards will probably give you 'legitimate' cause to test further.

I do not know of any agency that uses it and I personally do not use it. A good defense attorney will have a fun time with it because in essence you are asking an impaired person to do what most of the public can't do sober. Oklahoma police officer

It is a test you can use but a very bad one. Using it can leave you open to ridicule in front of a judge or jury that you we're just trying to embarrass the defendant. I have used a lot of tests but not that one. I have seen it used though - not the best one.

No, it is not a real reliable test, and by itself would prove nothing. I do not know any department using it ( although there may be some) and it is not part of the approved POST traning in any state I know of.

most states have 'removed' this test. an officer usually asks if you can say the alphabet from ' c to x ' or something like that...........most people can start, but will usually continue with the ' y and z '
