even if it's a figure of speech, arne't we treading on thin ice?

I think it can be a figure of speech (God knows for sure) but you are right in that it is thin ice.

No. The pride that is talked about in the Bible is the pride of self, thinking only of oneself and not of others, or putting oneself above all else. It's not mean to mean that all pride is bad.

a chaplain once said we make idol and gods out of people all the time. and truthfully 70 years ago it was a sin to hurt anything german. so does that make every nation that fought in WWII and WWI sinners that can never be forgiven and god jehovah could punish them unto two and three generations?

and Prince of England was quoted in PRINCE OF DARKNESS as opposed to some teachings in bible, so does that make him an enemy of the faith?
