Get LOTS AND LOTS of dog toys. Puppies will chew for several months, up to a year, just because they are puppies and there's nothing you can do to stop them, but it will gradually decrease as they get older. Our pup is 5 months and she has almost stopped biting my hand, but not quite. Just be patient, pick up your shoes off the floor, close bedroom doors, and get your pup into puppy training when they are 4-6 months old. Have fun.

Puppies have the need to chew (growing teeth). Get your puppy toys. If you get raw hides, make sure they are American made, they are more easily digested.
Keep the shoes away and never give your puppy an old shoe or sock. Your scent is all over each of these items. If you give them an old one, they think the new ones are theirs too.
Also, there is a book by the Monks of New Skeet (Upstate New York). They have one for puppies and one for adult dogs.
You may also want to get a "Halti" (PetSmart and Petco) for training. It is pet and human friendly.
Best wishes and don't forget lots of love.
Every puppy/dog needs to be trained.

You have about 6-8 months ahead of you of puppy behavior. Go and get yourself stocked up on things for them to chew.Try a variety as they get bored easy. Each time he chews a thing you don't want him to chew, correct him verbally and replace it with an acceptable chew toy.Repeat this over and over again.Purina offers a free puppy training video that may be helpful.
Just remember that positive reinforcement works wonders.
Puppies also have small bladders and will need to be taken out 6-8 times a day for months. This will be another repeat trick you will both learn.Have fun and enjoy.
I love puppies!

all puppies will chew on just about anything they can get their mouths on I have found that giving them a gentle but firm tap on the nose and a quick tsk sound as well as replacing the object of interest with an acceptable chew toy at the same time works well..... Check out this website by Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer..... www.dogpsychologycenter.com, Remeber never use objects such as old socks and shoes as toys for your pup it gives them the impression that all Socks, Shoes, etc. are exceptable to be used as toys and breaking them of the habit may prove to be harder if you do.....hope this helps.......... Oh, by the way, never use A shock collars they can cause serious physical and phsycological damage to your dog....... good luck with your new pup...........

I went through this with my pitbull puppy. when he chews your shoe take the shoe and put it in his face and close his mouth and firmly say no. then give him a chew toy and say yes to him everytime. Please do not use a shock collar. if the collar is in the wrong spot it could permanetly damage your dog and being a puppy it could also make it so he is nervouse and pee all the time. or even worse the collar could be to strong and give your puppy a heart attack and kill him.

Play with him...give him about 3 toys..and every couple days switch them out with another 3, mix em up..that way it seems like it is something new to play with, yet something they know they like. There are sprays you can use on certain items that they have a weakness for ie: shoes, chair legs, etc, such as Bitter Apple or Bitter End...they seem to work quite well. But mainly, keeping an eye on him and giving him lots of attention is key. Good luck with your new friend!

Give him/her something else to chew and keep everything that you don't want chewed up out of its way. Remember its only a baby and in order for it to stop doing the bad and do good things is to train it. Good Luck! It can be done and it is a great feeling to be with the dog you have trained. The behavior is only as good as the trainer.

My puppy will be here Friday but what you are supposed to do, when you see them chewing on your shoe say no!, not harshly though, and right after you see it doing that take it and place it next to a hard chew toy, not rubber or plastic, you may want to wanit until it is older and it had it's adult teeth in, but until they ar 6 monthes old give them small round bones, anyway when you see him/her chewing on something pick her up and squint your eyes and say no and give her a bone, you may have to put her in a kennel and put the bone in with her. I hoped I helped!! hope you have fun with your puppy!!!! :):):) BYE!!

Ok, well you can give it something else to chew on. Like a chew toy, or a bone, or even an old sock. That works with my dog. But they're be other things to teach your dog, like teaching him/her to go to the bathroom outside and not on your carpet. And you can also teach them tricks. You have to be ready to face all of the difficulties you'll have with your dog. Its all worth it though, becuase after all of that work training them, they're sooo cute.
