My son was walking and also started climbing out of his crib at the age of 9 months. I immediately got him a toddler bed, mostly because I was afraid of him hurting himself. After he was asleep, I would also put up a baby gate in his doorway to deter him from wandering around, but I knew he could also climb over that as well.

You just need to keep the baby monitor on and keep checking on her.

If you have a crib you can try putting her in that. Playpens are easier to climb out of. It could buy you a few weeks. That is what I did with my oldest who preferred sleeping in his playpen. It bought me about another month before I had to put him in the toddler bed. Otherwise the toddler bed and baby gates are the way to go. We got some of those first alert alarms and put one on the gate so we would hear it go off when he learned how to open the gate as well. Also we kept his door closed and had an alarm on that. If one failed the other one worked! It worked well for us. After the novelty of being up in the middle of the night wears off she will stay in her room at night. Good luck!

That must be an awfully big playpen. My child who is very tiny for her age was too small to sleep in one (hotel we stayed in called it a port-a-crib) and not to mention uncomfortable. Time for a toddler bed (your pediatrician will tell you that once they can climb out of a play pen or crib that it is time for a bed cause the climbing becomes a danger to their safety) and safety gates, latches etc. Use a baby monitor and lock the door while you get intimate.

I agree with Jennanderton. Once they climb out of the crib (or playpan) it's time for a toddler bed (or double bed, it's your call). And you're going to have to start teaching her about staying in her room after she's gone to bed. If a gate will help, you might want to get one.

This is probably the first of many times she will do that. I think you have 2 choices. (1) get a crib, and use the lowest setting for the mattress. or (2) get a toddler bed and teach her to stay in her room. AND she might be able to unlock doors and get out. My toddler has learned to do that so we bought the door knob covers and attached those to the knobs those work until she can learn to take those off, but by then hopefully she has learned not to do that.

Hope this helps.

sounds like she's ready for a bed. get her a bed and a bed guard and put a safety gate on her door, or at least one at the top of the stairs. keep the bathroom door shut too so she isn't into everything in there if she does decide to have a midnight stroll.

Is the playpen adjustable? If not, you need to get a crib that has an adjustable bottom such that you can make it deeper as your baby grows.
