I think you can, my sister in law did, and she is from Korea. And yes, she did it legally.

You need proof of being here legally in order to apply for a social security card. A social security card has nothing to do with citizenship, there are many people here on work visas or green cards with social security cards.

However, if you have applied for a green card after getting married and the government is behind schedule in processing your request a lawyer can help you get your social security card faster because someone here legally should not be punished for a slow government process.

Don't listen to all the nonsense some people had given you as an answer, you CAN apply for a SSC even if you are not a Green Card holder yet, but for that you will need acceptable documentation like your visa, passport, I-94 entry card, etc. every case is different, the issuance of a SSC will most like depend on your type of visa, and if you don't qualify for a SSC with the visa that you came with, once your application for permanent residency has been approved you will be able to apply. Good Luck.

Your green card functions as your social security card until you get your citizenship and or legalization. It's no different, just says you have a status as a legal immigrent.
However, your social security number is automatic because you married an American so you have a number, all you have to do is apply and they give it to you.
My husband is Italian, we're going through the same thing right now.
Takes 3-4 months.

No, because you are not a citizen yet. When you become a citizen, you'll get the ability to apply for the social security card.

YES YOU CAN. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP ANSWERING IF THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. ALL YOU NEED TO TAKE TO THE SS OFFICE IS ID AND UR WORKER'S PERMIT. I DONT KNOW HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN MARRIED BUT I AM ASSUMING YOU DONT HAVE A WORKERS PERMIT YET. ONCE YOUR SPOUSE PETITIONS FOR YOU AND YOU SEND THE PAPER WORK TO THE USCIS IN ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS YOU WILL GET AN APPT. FOT FINGERPRINTS AND BIOMETRICS FOR YOUR WORK PERMIT. IN ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THAT YOU GET UR WORK PERMIT IN THE MAIL. WITH THAT THE US IS GRANTING YOU THE RIGHT TO WORK HERE LEGALLY SO IT IS ONLY OBVIOUS THAT YOU NEED A SSN. EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE AT THIS POINT STILL NOT A RESIDENT OR CITIZEN. YOUR STATUS IS PENDING. HOPE THIS HELPED!!!

You need to become a U.S. Citizen first, and then apply for your social security card, and you won't need a green card anymore, because you married a U.S. Citizen. ( I think )

Very few noncitizens (even alien residents) can get SS cards, much less people with nonimmigrant status.

If you have a valid visa, then this should be possible.

Anyone with a work visa needs a SSN - I got one when I was ony here on a temporary work visa.
