depends. french is the language of diplomacy. spanish is the number two language in the usa. the state department needs more speakers of arabic. big business can use more japanese speakers. and don't forget mandarin chinese as usa is doing more business with china all the time. so it really depends on what your plans are; why you want to learn another language. each of these languages has different advantages.

Spanish will be the most useful for you, as an American. I am fluent in Spanish and English and have found that it has helped me a LOT! It also increases your resume's power and makes you eligible for far more jobs-- and gives you a leg up on the other applicants!

The answer is simple. You only have to look inside to know it. For the language between two lovers is infinately more important than mere words.

being bilingual or trilingual; it's always beneficial... wish we had more multilanguage people working in our intelligence department. In choosing a 2nd language, you should consider where you want to go; if it's for business, then pick the one that would be more beneficial... if it's for socializing, then choose one for a place you would like to visit. Anyhow, definitely go for a 2nd language.

your choice of a second language should be relevant to what professional field of endeavor you choose to study and work in or if you plan to live in a foreign country or date or marry someone who speaks another tongue.
