Make sure you have the time, money and ability to train and care for a dog. They become part of your family and should be treated as such.

Be sure to adopt too!!!

Although I would agree with most people who've answered you that dogs are fantasic company, loyal and fun and lovable and loving, you also need to think about what a dog would need from you. All dogs need excercise, space, attention and company. Don't get a dog if you're just going to leave it home all day while you're out working and then are too tired to take it out for a long walk, especially when it's cold, dark and wet in the evenings. A dog is a living creature with a sociable nature. If you want something to be there when you need it and look after itself when you can't be bothered/don't have time get a cat not a dog. This sounds harsh, but you have to build a relationship, which goes both ways, with a dog and if you don't think you can do this then don't be tempted.

Dogs are apparently a mans best friend. Fine. Womens too. Fine. Get yourself a lovely, loving dog. Preferably from a dog pound. But why not combine your search for your perfect loving pooch with a touch of human company too. Dog walking is an innocent and quite lovely way of striking up conversations with fellow dog (or puppy) owners and you'll be surprised hpw many other interesting, similar, crazy, sexy, people you'll meet.

Good luck. Spook. x

Dogs are really easy to love. Just know that it will also take some patience and time on your part-- a well-trained dog is definitely better to have around!

Think about what you want in your dog. Affectionate? Energetic? Guard dog? Short/Long hair? Then choose a breed based on those things.

Depends if you work full time.Dogs need commitment can you give it. They need walks in a morning and at night and possibly lunch time aswell. If you can and you are lonely a dog can be brilliant company. You will get your commitment rewarded several fold. You will also need some financial commitment regarding vets healthcare etc. If you are on benefits or pension you may get help from the pdsa for healthcare. If not think of vet bills when making your decision.

What are your circumstances? Do you work? Go to school? How much time do you spend at home? Can you walk/exercise the dog daily? Can you afford the food/medical? Personally, I'm a cat person. No walking. No kennels. Get two cats and they keep each other company when you're out. And they'll keep you laughing(always a plus) and love you if you love them

You should get a dog if you want a dog. They make good company but of course require work, so only get one if you really want it, not just for company.

I have 2 dogs...and my fiance is always gone. they are the best thing i have. and it is all about how u raise them. puppies r hard, but it's worth it when they grow up. Plus they are always happy to see you and your their whole world. I was very physical w/ both of mine, always touching and hugging them. Both are the sweetest things in the world. One is even a breed known for not being very nice...or overly protective. He loves everyone. and if your a female get a male dog...and visa versa. a male will take to a female owner more so than a male. the same with female dogs.

Dogs will be loyal for up to 20 yrs, and will be your best friend for it's entire life...what man is capable of that?

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, big or small, young or old. He doesn't
care if you're not smart, not popular, not a good joke-teller, not the best athlete,
nor the best-looking person. To your dog, you are the greatest, the smartest, the
nicest human being who was ever born. You are his friend and protector.”

Dogs make great companions! You never feel lonely with a dog. Then a dog needs to exercise so you take him/her to the park and bump into people who would probably never speak to you any day but they see your dogs and start talking about him/her. Then you take your dog to training classes and you meet dog people who always make you welcome because they see you as a dog person same as they are.

I have two dogs. My dogs love me unconditionally. I never have to reptend with them, i can just be me and they love me all the same. They can tell my ever mood, know when i need a cuddle, just as they know when i want some peace and quiet.

Better still ... They never turn up late, never expect me to drop everything off to rustle them a meal and never leave dirty clothes in a pile for me to pick up and wash!
