Basically, the steam (at pressure) is condensed (little or no pressure) on the far side of the turbine. The change in pressure causes the steam to flow, pushing the turbine blades. Steam turbine maintenance is either preventive or repair. Preventive maintenance is focused on keeping corrosion and wear minimized. Repairs include rebalancing, replacing rotors, welding to increase worn areas and replacing bearings.
