Your daughter is smart, but to determine if she's gifted; you'd have to have her tested. Lots of children can learn to recognize things by how they look and make associations. She also responds to the way you react when she gets it right. Repetition is key, my son recognizes his Baby Einstein videos by the way they look and can put one into the VCR and he's one. I don't consider that gifted. He's just seen me do it and repeated my motions. He's my first and I want to believe he's the smartest baby in all the land, but I know that's not true! (ha ha) Now, if your daughter can recognize letters of the alphabet with out saying the whole thing that could be another story. To truly determine her giftedness, get her tested. But, please don't push her, she might rebel against you. I think you should let her keep on keeping on the way she is. Don't pressure her, let he enjoy being a child as long as she can! Good luck!

That sounds like my daughter. She said her ABC's and numbers at 2 yrs. They know the movies, books or whatever because they can pick out details we don't notice anymore because we depend on words. My daughter also had and still has a memory like an elephant. She doesn't forget a thing. I think a lot of kids are like that. What happens now is some develop these "skills" and others don't. Depends what interests them. My daughter is now 7 and she is still a smart cookie. She is good at logical problems too. My 4 yr old son, he's a different story. He's smart but has other interests. Needless to say, your daughter could be gifted, or not. She'd have to be tested if you really want to know. Otherwise, I'd say she is a normal little girl.

My 2 year old can say her abcs, as well as many nursery ryhmes. she can also count to 20 and count backwards from 10. she can dress herself, even truning things the right way out. and shes toilet trained. she can recognise numbers and letters by sight. she knows all her animals, even odd ones like artic fox and all there sounds. she can draw stick figures that are clearly recognisable with facial features. she can speak basic spanish. even tho none of the family are spanish, thank dora for that! She can remember the morning childrens tv programing (the order of the shows), which i cant! She even plays educational games on the computer and can use a mouse and can tell which buttons to click on to play. she can also help with many household tasks, vacuuming, sweeping, washing vegies etc and helps with her younger brother. she is amazing. i think that every child has an amazing potential and they WANT to learn the more time u spend teaching them the better they learn., I do however think its to early for any formal learning as children need to learn thru play. they learn from their parents best and this is what u should continue doing, playing and learning. all children are gifted when they r born its just a matter of nurturing them. it is recommended u read between 5 and 6 books a day and talk about them in depth. this will help with recognising the words and what they mean. your doing a great job though!

We all like to think our children are gifted.
This is not a for sure sign though. I have met a few 2 year olds that can say the ABC's.

The video tape thing is just an association with a picture.

Now if she is doing math that would be impressive.

The only way to tell would be to have her tested. But before you run out & spend a bunch of money, remember that a lot of toddlers can recite the alphabet (it doesn't mean they can connect the letter to anything meaningful, however), and many small children can recognize the characters on the cover of the video, especially if they watch them frequently.

If she's reading by three and has an extensive vocabulary, I might reconsider testing.

Well.....no. I take it this is your first child? Children remember things very well, she probably just makes the connection between the colours or pictures on the tape and what she sees on TV. By two years she should be able to say her ABC's and remember colour differences, she's on the right path but you should now try to encourage her to do things she hasn't done before.

Quite possibly! But does she really know her ABC's, or can she just recite them? If she recognizes the letters out of order, then I'd say YEP! She's gifted!

You should consider looking in an IQ test center, and how old she needs to be to get tested.

She could know the tape from repitition, From watching the same movie over and over, liking it a great deal, There could be a colour to it, or even a picture she recognizes!!
I am not meaning to take away from your giftedness that she might or might not have...but what Im saying is that you will have to wait till she is school aged to find out they will and can do tests for that...

She is normal. She is recognizing words or pictures on the tapes. And the ABCs are normal, kids pick up more than we think.
