First of all don't be intimidated. Just start trying stuff. Find a good wine store close to you and ask for help. Or if the only place is a grocery store just start trying different varietals. There is a lot to choose from in the $10-$20 range. Try some California Red's. Rancho Zabaco's Dancing Bull is a good bottle of Zinfandel and is usually less than $10. Ravenswood is also a quality producer of Zinfandel. My favorite Red is Cotes du Rhone from France. They are usually inexpensive. Guigal and Perrin are Cotes du Rhone of high quality that should be easy to find. Also look to Chile, Argentina, and Portugal for good value Red's. Have fun.

Last year I went to Navarra (Spain)... if you can get any wine from there the price/quality it´s the best. Really good wines at very low prices. Here you can get an excellent bottle of wine for 5 Euros and I´ve seen some wine from Navarra on the internet for 15 dollars.

The best age (if you can get it) 2001

Hope ít´s useful the information

Now don't laugh. This is not a joke. It's a real red wine and it's my favorite. It's about 10 bucks a bottle. It's called Fat Bastard Merlot. They make Chardonnay and Shiraz too. Not only is it a good wine, but your guests will get a good laugh at the name.

Any Amberhill wine
Maryhill Sangiovese Reserve
Erath Pinot Noir
Six Prong Red Table WIne
Chiramonte

These wines are under $25, and some under $15, but taste far better than they are priced. : )

Bully Hill Sweet Walter Red is good as is Torrey Hill Blue Sapphire. Another good "starter wine" is Reunite Lambrusco.

A very sweet red wine would be Arbor Mist Sangria or Blackberry Merlot. It is very inexpensive also. I can easily drink a whole bottle myself.
