Humans work on behaviors. They are learned and just a part of our personality. What we need to learn is that we all have what we call "automatic thoughts". Just use an automatic thought record. That is stop recognize the quick "automatic thought" that comes to you first when posed with a situation or conversation, Think about the emotion attatched to it and then think about what you are to do next. That would be the action, what you do next. By keeping a thought record of this line of thinking, over time you will learn to catch yourself before you have a regret, be it a word that was cutting or an action. I hope that this helps. What it all boils down to is "think before you react" and understand why you feel the way you do.

I think it has to do with the imperfections of human nature. And I think that although we regret it later, whatever we do is something that we wanted at some point in our lives. There is also irrationality. Our minds are not always in a rational state and when its not we tend to do things that in the future we are not so proud of. In the end, I think whatever we did, we do not regret, we just regret that fact that we had to do it.

Simple. We don't think about consequences. usually we're thinking the temporary pleasure, from doing what we will regret, is greater than the "REGRET" itself. Unfortunately, when it gets to the regret time, we wish we never did what we did. So, if you find yourself in this situation, ask, " did I learn something here?....."

Because what we do, seemed like a good idea at the time, but in hindsight was not the best choice.
ie: drink 18 beers the night before an early job interview.

because we are human. Not one human in the world is perfect! Some are close to it, and I really do not like some of those people. One was nice in the begining and he later appeared to be a suck up and selfish.

We impulsively decide to do something, in one impulsive moment, but then we can think it over and second-guess ourselves for years. It really pays to consider the consequences before jumping into a new activity.

It's definitly human nature. Even Paul, one of the greatest teachers of Christ's message had the same troubles . . . and he met Christ face-to-face. How much harder for us who have only faith (or none at all) to drive us to to the right thing no matter how hard it seems?

Because we as humans are selfish and always go for the things we know we can't have.
