Usually it will just come to you once you see the dog.

I have a lasa apso (sp?). His name is Peppi. The reason I call him Peppi is I realized the day we picked him up from the breeder, she called every dog in the kennel puppy. She was feeding them and calling all of them, "here puppy, puppy, puppy" and they all came running. So to keep the sound similar, we called him Peppi. It did not take but a day and he picked right up. His formal name on the papers is Sir Pepperrell.

I had a dog named termite...

We Had a dachshound named Willie the wiener dog.....(My Mom Named him)
We Had a Chiuaua Named Chiquita Banana (again my mom)(but the dog liked Bananas)
And An Australian Shepard Name Mitzi (named after my dads Favorite actress)
In The case of my dogs we named them based on their personality.......
