This has been recognized in medical journals for at least 40 years, and is called different things, including the "photic sneeze reflex" and even the "ACHOO syndrome". In a few instances the reflex has been documented by shining bright lights at people to make them sneeze, so it probably really does happen.
Nobody is really sure why. Apparently, somehow, the nerve pathway associated with sneezing is stimulated with the exposure to bright light.

I sneeze when I see a bright light or the sun as well. I'm not sure why this happens, but I'm glad to hear I'm not alone!

Bright light causes your eyes to water. When you tilt your head back, that moisture drains from your eyes thru a tube that passes into your nose.
Your nose thinks the moisture is a foreign object, so you sneeze to get it out.

It happens to me also. People with more sensitive sinuses (cavity that goes behind the eyes, nose, and mouth/ throat) will often have that happen. The bright light irritates your sinuses causing you to sneeze.
