My cat occasionally faces off with a red fox. No action has occurred so far but maybe in the future. The cat has free range of the property when not in the house, which is often.

one very dead cat, foxes eat cats so call a wildlife center to have them trap and relocate the fox

Don't do it! It's very painful. Imagine your cats claws as fingernails, they cut below where the fingernail would start growing meaning they take of the finger to the first knuckle. Get something called Soft-paws, which is a plastic cap that fit over the cats claws and are glued on. I find that keeping the claws trimmed and having a couple of good scratching posts is all that's needed.

I don't see why you even put your cat in that risk. An adult red fox has more defensive intelligence, than a domestic housecat does. Not to mention size advantage. If you want your cat to remain safe, do NOT let him/her out of the house unattended. (aka on a leash, or in an enclosed cage.)

the adult red fox in familiar with hunting in the wild and taking on opponents...is your cat? if not, keep the cat inside and call wildlife control

Dear GoD! Keep your cat inside - despite rabies shots - they can still catch and die from the disease, foxes are HUGE carriers of rabies!
