Yo! Guys, you're getting WAY too intense about this. Confused, someone could feel that way or have that approach to ANYTHING: watching television, bowling, filing their nails, applying lipstick, eating celery, working too many hours (*ahem*), but what you're talking about is potentially obsessive behavior, which can be applied to ANYTHING, and just like, say bowling, and as opposed to chemical substances which DO create addictions, touching your body in ANY way does NOT create a chemical addiction.
And hmm, I think you'll find that people are often cynical about it for good reason. I taught kindergarten and preschool for a long time, and I'm here to tell you that you'd be hard pressed to not find the little kid that masturbated. It's very normal and natural behavior. While there are certainly times for nearly all of us when we do NOT masturbate or have sexual partners, most people -- at some point in their lives -- will have masturbated (even if you did it when you were little and don't recall). But that doesn't mean plenty of people choose not to from time to time, or even from here on out at a point in their lives and that is ALSO perfectly okay.

It's the safest "sex" there is. Negative side effects? Besides possible frustration in not having a live partner, it is possible that one will become less sensitive (men or women) to sexual stimulus and thus may find it more difficult to climax when having sex with a partner. Masturbating is quite normal/natural though...most people do or have done it.

Masturbating is healthy and normal. Doing it more that 5 times a day without proper lubrication would make you sore, that's the only side effect I can think of.
Well besides killing kittens.

Warts?? how the **** do you know.. What medical journal is that in??
let me put it this way if you don't masterbate when its time to actually have sex, you will be even worse off.
And its no Sin to Masterbate.
I'm going to give you a link to a reffrence that on the surface has nothing to do with masterbation. However it is the old Testamate that talks about Not masterbating. (actually it talks about having sex with someone and not letting your sperm enter her- never masterbation. It looks like anyone that's used a condom is going to hell. How am ever going to live with myself)
