Absolutely. When British actions take on American roles in film they have speech trainers to help them perfect their "American" dialect. (Like on the FOX series "House", the actor who plays Gregory House is actually British)
However, the term accent actually only applies if someone is speaking a language that is different from their native tongue. Example, a French accent or a German accent. However if the person speaks the language as their native language, it's referred to as a dialect. For example, a Southern dialect (not a southern accent) or an English or an Australian dialect.

Yes. Americans have an American accent. I know there are different places in America which have different accents from one another as there are in England, and I guess from every other country. But we can tell if someone is American because they will still have an American accent whichever part of America they are from.

Yes, they doo!

Only because they have an English accent, and we have an American accent - from different parts of America. So, yes - they really do! I have lots of family there, so I know for a fact.

Yes, and I've heard some of them do a pretty good version of it.

James Marsters (Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) did such a good British accent that Anthony Head (Giles) thought he was really from the U.K.!
