This isn't the way to house train a dog. You need to catch him before or during the act. If he starts smelling around in circle areas get him outside NOW and Praise, Praise, Praise when he goes outside. Also try crate training when you are not home and at night. This cuts the training down in about half. Animal trainers recommend this. Also do a search on Dr. P's Training Tips. You will find recommendations on training for just about anything you need

No. It does nothing to housebreak the dog and is just plain mean. Doing this will show your dog than you are dominant over him. There are much more effect, humane and sanitary means of doing this. One way is pinning the dog to the ground with one hand at it's neck (without choking it) and the other just in front of it's hind leg. Hold the dog firmly without hurting it until it will lay relaxed without fighting you. Eventually it will automatically relax as soon as you put the dog into this position.

Housetraining can be done effectively with the crate and extra attention. Pay attention to what the dog is doing prior to having accidents in the house. You have to learn a little about your dogs habits before you can train it. We trained our dog not only to go outside but to ring a bell to let us know when it is needed because he does not bark much without ever hitting him or rubbing his nose in the feces.

Dogs do not feel disgust about 'poo' as we do and putting his nose in it does nothing.

Take him out when he is likely to go (after eating, being crated, sleeping, or running around a bit) and then praise. If you catch him going in the house, holler NO, NO, NO! And then take him outside.

Not rub, but make it where the dog has to smell it. It works well to potty train but the rubbing seems cruel.

I heard it wasn't good for the dog. but for punishment hit him with a newspaper or make him go outside for a long time. Like time out.

Is your dog crate trained? You shouldn't get mad at your dog if he has an accident, next time, show him the right place to pee and praise him when he does it right.

No, that is the worse thing you can do. You will produce a dog that thinks you want him to eat it or hide it.

It will be hard to convince him that you love him...just think about it.

i dont know about ok, but it sure is funny! just to mess with him, you should poo on the floor yourself, and then rub his nose in it!
