I realize that there are ups and downs to ever living situation. However, I really think I am going to like CA. I want to pursue acting and will be living downtown while attending Stella Adler. New Englanders have a repuation for being very bitter and uptight, and many people in LA are fake an posers. I am not really sure what to expect, but I need to be around happy, postive people in my life. Besides housing prices in Boston have become insane, making it impossible for me to even consider buying a house. Thanks

See it's people like East coasters that come to LA and bring there Crap with them. Lived here all my life and yet to meet natives that are bitter, uptight, rude, fake and posers the vast majority of the people that are like this are people who bring the attitudes here to LA... Could it also be that it's the field that you are choosing to follow is filled with fakes and Posers like you have stated above? what does that say about you. Maybe it's not the city but more the out of stators that come here that give it a bad reputation. Ok, Ok enough of that... There are plenty of nice helpful people in LA it totally depend in the circle you run with a Place like Long Beach or Silver Lake tend to be cool places to live at but if you think New England is expensive you haven't seen anything yet... LA is one of the most expensive place to try to buy a house(SanFran might be more difficult)... I'll tell you... In South LA not the best yet not the worst place to buy a home... Homes are going for over $600,000 and there not big homes talking about 2 small bedrooms and 1 bath so if you are thinking about coming to LA with thoughts of finding something cheap you'll be in for a surprise but not to say that you wont find anything cheap there are some like the Valley or in the Inland Empire but prices are rising there too and housing is a bit difficult considering all the people that are leaving the heart and heading to the outskirts.

Umm, no parts of Massachusetts are going to be like Hollywood. But, Boston is a much better city than LA--so don't worry about it. The suburbs are mostly families, so if you want young people I would stay in Boston or Cambridge. Cambridge is fun, and most areas are pretty safe. Like any city, you need to be careful. Also, I hate to break it to you but, Massachusetts in general is an expensive state.

If you think Boston housing prices are insane, heh heh heh, just wait til you see L.A.'s

Boston is CHEAP by comparison.

Now about that attitude.

If you expect the worst you get the worst. Just slow down with people enough to get a sense of them. You'll figure out which ones are worthwhile.

Happy people attract happy people.

Good luck.

There are some really seedy neighborhoods in L.A. -- STAY AWAY from them. Don't look for housing in run down areas (trashy streets/junk cars - guys standing around w/beer bottles) The prices for housing here are bad, as bad as where you came from, but trying to get low cost housing comes w/risks to your person, property and sanity. Get the BEST job, paying the most money, cause you'll need it. Stay away from anywhere you would stand out! Don't go out alone, bar hopping (if your a woman). Don't trust ANY Man who knows you're from out of town. Don't give your car keys to Valets. Don't leave money or any property in your car overnite.

any place is what you make of it.
if you believe that LA is full of fakes and posers then that is the people you will meet here.
one tip i have for you is to get traffic shortcuts.
one resource i recommend is available at http://www.lafastway.com
I am living in Sun Valley. I like it because it is fairly easy to get anywhere in LA from here but it is largely an industrial area so noone comes here lol but I am in coyote country so it is actually residential and suburbian. So it works for me.

Living in L.A. is very expensive, i wouldnt choose downtown as a place to live. besides you wont find posers or fake ppl nothing but a trash ridden place, your thinking of those ppl who live in the nice places of l.a. like beverly hills, you need mad cash to live there.
