How is this possible? I want to protect the people I love and care for. I would easily put my life on the line to save someone else. I don't fear death. Yet I still can't resolve this issue. How can I protect the ones I love, but killing the brothers, fathers, and husbands who are doing the exact same thing. People try to tell me that we (The United States of America) only fight against "bad" people. I disagree with this mainly because, in our world, there is no "good" or "bad" person. We idenify people with those traits, on account of their opinions and beliefs. So in reality, we aren't fighting evil, we are fighting the people who's opinions we don't agree with. Going back to the era of the Crusades, thousands of people we massacred because of they were the "right" religon. Should a person be a guardian by killing others? I find it mildly ironic how I am only fifteen, and I already slave over these topics. Final Question: Should I be a soldier?

I think you would make a very fine Soldier, actually a very fine Officer. There is an assumption that Soldier's have blood lust. Nothing could be further from the truth, amongst the British Soldiers I know. My Army Officer husband is highly educated, compassionate and decent to his bones. He feels that his job is to protect innocents (ALL innocents) and to keep the peace. You are ABSOLUTELY right, War is to be abhorred and avoided at all cost, and far too many are started by mad men with a hidden agenda but imagine yourself now, in command, in Iraq? Whatever you felt about being there in the first place, wouldn't you prefer that the Iraqi people were being helped to get back on their feet by decent, thoughtful people like you? than by jingoistic, Gung Ho idiots who have no respect for other races? I would.

You don't become a soldier to protect the people you love. You don't become a soldier to kill other people (that just happens along the way sometimes). You become a soldier to defend the Constitution of the United States of America. That's it. That's all you do.
Now, the naive will ask what threat Iraq was to the Constitution. But you have to understand that the Constitution sets the President up as the Commander-In-Chief and allows him to make war with consent of Congress.
Congress has consented to this war. The President is waging it. To suggest that it is wrong for soldiers to fight shows a lack of Constitutional understanding.

In reality young man ,We are fighting the people who attacked us first. On 911 over 3000 innocent Americans were killed and burnt to death by the Muslim Jihadist. They have been killing Americans for years.. I would be proud to be a soldier to protect this great country as my Father did. You have to make up your own mind. Only you can make that decision. Good Luck!

You have too high an IQ to be a soldier.
forget it... the only people who can be effective soldiers are those who buy into the propaganda 100%, otherwise they could not convince you to kill starved, defenseless peasants in other counties so that New Yorkers can sit in traffic in their SUV's all day.
If you want to fight for justice, maybe you should fight the people who really are messing up the world, one place to start, if you are truely courageous is by becoming an attorney.

No, you should stay at home, go to church, and pray that the people who disagree with you don't come knocking on your door. Trust that we will keep those "not bad" people from coming and invading our country.
OR
Wake up and smell the coffee. Of course there are "good" and "bad" people in the world. If you look at the governments that are destroying their own people by starving them, gassing them, or stealing from them, you would realized that the PEOPLE who formed those govt's are "bad", allowing the govt's to remain in place is "bad". Why? You don't allow innocents to be killed if you can avoid it.
Remember, EVIL WILL PREVAIL WHEN GOOD PEOPLE DO NOTHING.

Well you could be a soldier and just support the combat soldiers. You would still have to have the same mentality but you wouldn't be trained to become a mindless killer. I would say go guard but then you would have to face your morale dilemma head on. It is a hard choice. But if you actually believe that all people are good and that they all just want to survive I wouldn't join the US military any time soon.

Considering the way you feel, no, don't become a soldier. You will have no choice as to who you will protect and who you won't, and who you will kill and who you won't. Your sole job will be to follow orders, and more than likely, those orders will go against your beliefs.
On a side note, I'd like to point out that you are a very intelligent 15 year old. :)

It gives me hope that you are thinking things out better than George Bush is capable of doing. At least when we kill, we should take responsibilty and not try to sugar coat the reason.
