If your lucky to have a garage attached to your house. Why not have a barbeque as it will appeal to the adults and the children, if the weather turns bad you can move it into the garage which my friend did once and it turned out really well as your still outdoors but not completely... just make sure you keep the barbeque closest to the door so all the smoke can go out easily.
For the children you could always have a bouncy castle, pass the parcel, musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey, pass the apple... basically they usual children things that they enjoy.

I would just go to walmart, and instead of a character theme, just do a color.. (like blue, or green...) And then get a cake of the same color and have them put Happy 1rst Birthday... and get plastic cups and silverware, and etc.. Do the party after the baby's nap... if he sleeps from 1-3 then have the party at 4... Do you really have to invite 25 people??? With my sons first birthday I invited our parents, and brothers and sisters.... but then again you may have a large family, so in that case, I would go towards the park to... maybe have it in a pavilion, considering how hot and miserable it will be.. (my sons b-day is the end of June) and maybe go to a park that has a swimming pool so the bigger kids can play... I had my sons b-day party at our house, and set up a kiddie pool, and we hung out outside.. We set up some chairs, and umbrellas, and a table for the cake and stuff.. everyone played outside, on the back patio, and when it came time for the cake, we brought it outside to cut it... As far as entertainment is concerned.. have a few toys and playpen for your son.. and maybe get a few games to play for the older kids.. (bring a ball to throw around and some other things.. for outside play) but really, your son isn't gonna be too involved this time around... I would also keep the party to and hour, hour and a half at the most... let the guests arrive, and while you are waiting, the kids can play as everyone get there, then once most everyone is there, cut the cake, and visit, then when cake is almost eaten, open the gifts.... Then when that is done, start cleaning up, and by that time, most of the guest shoudl be leaving.... Let them feel free to visit with one another and stuff, but don't feel obligated to stay around... youneed to keep the baby cool, and get him inside as soon as you can... it is really too hot, to be hosting an outside party.. not unless it is later in the evening, but that isn't usually an option... Good Luck though, and take lots of pics!!!

I am pregnant with my first child and I would want my daughter's 1st birthday to be special. Maybe a little theme would be nice for the plates and napkins but there need not be a lot of planning since the 1-yr-old will not be able to participate. I think the key to a great time is GOOD FOOD... The adults will appreciate that... and good cake too! Good luck.

Depends on what the ages are of the other children, if ages range from 1-7 a pinata is always cool, pin the tail on the donkey, have candy bags or fruit snack bags, chips n dip and of course cake! If the children are smaller if you have a sprinkler or a small pool that is always fun for the kids. As for the adults, well everyone can entertain themselves, cards horseshoes, charades whatever.

1st birthdays are always for the grownups. Do a barbecue. Have a small cake or cupcake just for the birthday kid to get all messy in and eat with his hands. Have toys/videos to distract the other kids. Take lots of pictures. Your son won't know what's going on.

At 1 they won't remember. We had my daughter's 1st party at Burger King. I paid for all the kids a kid's meal. They had cake, she opened gifts, the older kids went outside and played. The adults sat around and adored her. If it is mostly adults, just cake and gifts. A 1 yr. old can't play games so why have them?

I agree with the first answer. My daughter just turned 1 in April, and since we had just moved, I did not have the energy to have a huge party, and since I knew she would never remember it, my husband and I decided to get her her own cake and take pictures/videos of her tearing it up and eating it. It was much more fun than having to plan a party with activities and such. Just treat it as any normal get toegther that you would have any other time.

For the children, you have to have party favors. In those party favors, you can go to like 99 cent store and buy toys and candy. Those should keep them occupied. In the 99 cent store you can also purchase the party favor bags.
Also, balloons are great. I bought a huge mylar balloon that is a shape of a slice of cake with one candle on it. I bought it with several other balloons to have a bouquet.
Twister, Pin the tail on the Donkey, obstacle course races
I hope these help.

You could have his birthday at a park. Bring food and drinks such as chips, hotdogs, soda, and water anything you like even a birthday cake. Maybe blankets for people to sit on the grass. Most parks have basketball courts, swings, and a pool. Also, bring your son little baby toys that he can play with. Have fun

1 year old?
Ye gods! The kid will not remember it. Activities and games start coming in at age 3 or 4.
Just serve the kid a cupcake and a candle. Sing. Give the kid a toy. You're done.
