In the US, bilingualism is associated with immigrants, poverty and a political agenda which cloud the researches on the topic. This is clearly not the case in Europe, for example. There are some indication that bilingual children have a slightly higher IQ, all the rest being equal.
This means that children of middle class families would benefit if the US did in fact become bilingual. In fact, the people whining the most are probably the ones being left behind.
Get over it.

I like your question. I'm hoping if we fight back, it will be Spanish. I'm so sick of having to choose Engrish or Spanglish when I go to the ATM to get money out. It's America not Mexico. Sorry, sort of went off subject for a second there.

But I think most kids will be trilingual (Chinese, Spanish, and English) although English will continue to be spoken at home).
Americans are stubborn, after all.
