I suggest eye laser surgery. I had mine 5 years ago after wearing contacts for 20 years and it was the best money i ever spent. I understand that current technology even makes the procedure with instant results and no recovery time for a week like i had. And it is painless. Now if you dont like that option, remember that the eye is the most resilient organ in your body and heals the fastest when injured so there is no reason to be afraid to touch it. Once you get past that hurdle it should not take you long to learn to wear the lens...good luck

Hello there, have you considered a Lasik procedure? I believe is the safetiest way to go if you are thinking about exposing your eyes to some impact -which I believe boxing is- It is not so expensive these days and you can always make payment arrangements. If you are not wearing bi-focals you should be ok for the procedure.
In the other hand, I was afraid of touching my eyes before I started wearing my contacts. It gets easy day by day with the practice, just make sure that you clean the saline solution from the lenses very well with the wet drops before you stick them into your eyes; otherwise, the burning sensation will irritate your eyes badly- I have been wearing mine for about six months and I am an expert on the matter- I can take them off and put them on while driving, talking on the phone and smoking at the same time (I will highly discourage you from trying this) At the very least you can try the contacts option, after all is not as bad as being punched in the face.
Hope, it helps and good look, ...I mean luck

I am near sighted, far sighted and middle sighted lol I have the eyesite of an oldlady. I wear my glasses in boxing but when I spar I take them off. All I see is a shadow really but that's all I need I can see arms, hands, fist, chest just none of it clearly but I don't need it to be clear :) it did take a lto of adjusting to though cause I was never used to taking my glasses off.

of course you can touch your eye as long as you do it gently.

try a little bit with clean fingers, try once touching it gently and then you will see nothing bad happens, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't burn, etc. it feels normal... the key is to be gentle and overcome the natural tendency to close your eyes.

have you ever tried to remove an eyelash from the inside of your eye??? well it's the same thing but just gotta place your contact in position and DONE! no mystery or pain!

you get used to it, it just takes practice.

Besides, boxing with contacts... have you tried going without them?
is your vision really that bad that you cant see 20 feet across the ring?
what if one pops out in the middle of a match, then your depth perception is completely screwed until the end of the round.

One trick is to place the contact on the outside white of your eye, then slide it over top of your cornea by looking / moving your cornea to the side. That way, you avoid the "Oh no, I'm gonna poke my eyeball" sensation that usually comes with trying to put the lens directly onto your cornea from your fingertip.

Talk to your eye doctor, because they teach you how to do it. I said the same thing at first and now I have no trouble. It just takes practice and getting used to it.
