If you could count on everybody using their brain....everybody would get at least one arm rest. The arm rest that "should" be yours, is the one (regarless of the seat you are in, or which side) closest to the aisle.
The window seat does not have one on the window (usually), so the only rest that person would have is the other one...Obviously the person on the aisle has the one on the aisle....and the person in the middle would have the next to the person sitting in the aisle seat.
