I've tried to read it, but I'm honestly not touched by its words. I prefer coming-of-age novels that deal with man finding his place in the world. Something life-affirming. Any particular verses you wish to impart?

Three things:

Psa 119:130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Deu 4:29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Psa 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do thereafter; His praise endureth for ever.

So God reveals himself to those who:

1. Seek him sincerely
2. Fear him (that is know how much higher he is than you)
3. Those who acknowledge they know nothing and go to him for wisdom and understanding.

I hope you do these three things. If you seek him, he will be more than happy to give you all of his secrets.

My advice is to read Ecclesiastes. Then read the Bible straight through from Genesis to Revelation. Also get a good modern english translation to read.

I find in reading the stories of people of faith, that they struggled, doubted, failed, cheated, lied, stole, and even murdered. But they continued to seek God. Even the disciples of Jesus were basically a bunch of bumbling idiots, but, they followed in faith. I see in the Bible that God loves us, and seeks relationship with us, and calls everyone to enjoy a place at a great big table.
I like Ps. 85 that talks about God's people "going from strength to strength."
I love the Jacob stories in Genesis, because he was a trickster and a liar, but God still used him.
My all time favorite verse is: 2 Corinthians 4:7, "we have this treasure in clay jars..." We're all broken vessels, but as Leonard Cohen wrote, "there's a crack in everything, that's where the light gets in..."

Read John 3:16 That really touches me. God speaks to my heart reading the Bible. many times i have been down. I started reading the Bible. God showed me things that really did help me. The more i read, the more He shows me, and speaks through His word. Jesus is the living word, and the Bible is the written word, and i believe them both.

You have to read it because it is the truth, and not as just another "good" novel or book. It certainly won't affirm your life if you're not living it right!

John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said unto him (Nicodemus), Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

You cant just read it and expect it to pop out at you, Its that grip that God has on your heart, that personal experience that you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that He has shown Himself to you. Then when you read the scriptures it all comes together. If you truly ask God to open up your eyes He will. Contact me if you want something that will rattle your world! Mine did!

Not I. You have to look at reading the Bible as religion, not a storybook like Harry Potter books. Change your attitude.

Start with the New Testament, the Old Testament is hard to read. Once you read the New Testament, things make more sense in the Old.

Are yoiu a Christian? The Bible is not interesting if you do not have the Holy Spirit within you to guide and convict you.

It's a book. Just like any other book. You're either "touched" by the book or not. It's just a book for crying out loud.
