They do have massive problems with birth defects and cancers in those regions. The background radiation is still previlant.
Very broadly speaking the Japanese have a healthier diet than a lot of other countries (especially Britain, America and Australia). Because they are an Island nation they have developed as a country on a seafood based diet (It's also suprising just how many animals they eat raw as well), which is about the healthiest you can have, although they also eat a large quantity of rice and noodles which have low fat contents.
Asians are often thought of as healthy eaters because of the stereotype that Asians are mostly skinny. This myth has probably grown from the fact that a lot of asian nations are third world and cannot afford the junk that a lot of developed nations shove down their throats.

the bombs were dropped over 60 years ago. Most of the people who would have died from the radiation after the initial blasts would have in the first several years. There were many birth defects and radiation poisoning death cases in the late 1940s and even up into the 1960s. Since that time the cases have dwindled as most people exposed to high levels of radiation have already died.

They are healthier than us westies due to diet and lifestyle. They have diet high in fish and complex carbs rather than meat and processed foods and they are generally more active eg. they walk and cycle rather than take a car. However those living in the areas in and around the bomb drops had a much higher incidence of various cancers, especially leukaemias. Plus although they are generally healthier as in less obesity and heart disease, they still have similar incidences of cancers, just different ones are more prevalent than here in the west - particularly stomach and nasopharyngeal cancers.

Let's see, total surface area affected by the Hiroshima and Nagasaki blasts, likely 100 kilometers square I'd guess, each. So that's a total of 200 kilometers miles of radiation in a country that's got 374,744 sq km of land.
Total amount of land affected by the blasts: 1/500 of one percent.
