People who lived before Jesus became a man and lived on earth could get to heaven only if they did their very best to obey God's commandments and to follow what God told them to do. They had to atone for their sins by making animal sacrifices at the temple in Jerusalem at least once a year and follow all the Law. Before God gave the ten commandments and the law to Moses, there were prophets who spoke with God and told the people what they had to do. If they didn't do what the prophets said and follow the law (once it was written), they went to hell.
Now that Jesus the Christ has made the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all, there is no more need for animal sacrifices. He also intercedes for us so there is no need for priests to tell us what God says as we can all now talk to God through prayer. Of course, pastors and other people who know more about the Bible than a lay person does are still very helpful for helping to explain what the Bible says about specific issues. Also for leading believers in reaching those who don't know about Jesus yet.
Those who never hear about Jesus and those who do but reject Him will go to hell when they die. It isn't P.C. or "fair" or "nice" but that's just how it is. That's why Christians who are truly commited to their faith try so hard to reach people and teach them about Jesus. They don't want anybody to go to hell.
God doesn't want anyone to go to hell either. He loves everyone and wants to have a relationship with them similar to that of an earthly father with his child. He cant do that though because of the curse that He put on the earth when Lucifer (disguised as a snake) decieved Eve and she disobeyed God. There is no forgiveness of sin except through perfect sacrifice. That's why He sent His Son to pay the price for our sins. If we sincerely claim Jesus' death and ressurection as our sacrifice offered to cover our sins, God will forgive them and we can have a relationship with him.
That's what heaven is: having an eternal relationship with God both while we are alive in these bodies and later after we die. Hell is eternal separation from Him. There is no true happiness, fulfillment or peace without having God in your life. Why do you think everyone searches for something or someone to "fill the hole in their soul" or to "make them complete" or "satisfied" or "bring meaning to their life"? God made Adam and Eve for the purpose of having a relationship with Him. Humans are born with a need for this relationship. If no one tells them how to find it with God, they will look everywhere else for something to substitute for it. There is no real substitute for it though. No drugs, material posessions, other human companions, cults, gangs...nothing to replace it. Sooner or later, everyone who doesn't have God in their life realizes they are empty and that nothing they have tried really fills them. That's when many people come to repentance and reach for God, especially if they are afraid they are going to die. The only real reason that some people fear death is that they don't know what will happen to them after they die. People who have a real relationship with God don't fear death because they know that they will be with Him forever after they die. There are lots of great reasons to be a Christian but that is the greatest one. If you aren't afraid to die, you are free to really live and care for others because you aren't afraid of what they can do to you if they reject you. What's the worst thing anyone could do to you? That would be to kill you since you can recover from any words or non fatal injuries they might give you. But if you aren't afraid to die, then there is nothing they can do to you to stop you from reaching out to them.

Before Jesus, passage into heaven or hell was based on works, and was very strict. Now it's based solely on the grace that Jesus has given us. As for the people in remote areas, the bible says that all have a chance to either accept or reject him. It might not mean that they know him by name, he will make himself real to everyone at some point. It's up to them after that.

I know this is just one opinion among many, but to me, this doesn't seem a question of real- estate (heaven or hell). It doesn't make sense that someone would be held accountable for something they have no way of which to obtain knowledge. I would guess that if Christianity holds true, that in the afterlife there is some sort of intermediary place upon which people are given the knowledge and choice before being judged.

They will be in Hell with all the handicapped people (Lev.21:17-23), people who believe pi is 3.14 (it's actually 3, see 1 Kings 7:23), people who wear strange clothes (Zephaniah 1:8), and men with long (or women with short) hair (1 Corinthians 11, 14-15).
Oh, and women who wear pants, too! (Dueteronomy 22:5)
And men who have been in a horrible accident (Deuteronomy 23:1)
I think there may be only three folks in heaven, God, Jesus & the Holy Ghost. Oh, wait, two. Ghosts are supernatural. That's against the rules, too...

The time before Jesus was the time of the Law when animal sacrifices was what was needed to atone for sin, then Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice for mankind. The Bible says that every ear shall hear and every knee shall bow. So the people in the remote areas will hear about Him, that is why it is up to us to spread his word into the "highway and hedges". People will be judged on what they know by God.

THIS is the CREATOR's BUSINESS. We can think bout' it and wonder, but the CREATOR has already PROVIDED TWO mean's of SALVATION for the PEOPLE since ADAM AND EVE. (not yelling, just Emphasizing!!!) One is the OLD Testament (contract with Mankind for Salvation) and the Second one is the NEW Testament (Contract with Mankind for Salvation) and don't forget the CREATION (EARTH and STAR SYSTEM) and GOD said that every MAN wil be held accountable for Belief in a CREATOR( HIMSELF) after that man (male or female) has seen this CREATION and thought bout' it for a while (common-sense that HE gave us)----PLUS we don't know how HE deal's with Man who live's in deserted place's or People who lived befor ADAM and EVE (the BIBLE dosen't say Adam and Eve were the first MEN (male and female) that HE CREATED, now does it????? Hope this helps!!!!
p.s. Just in case your wondering this too-----Baby's and Children under the Age of Accountability do not end up in HELL if they die, GOD ALMIGHTY RECREATE's (SAVED, Born-Again) their Spirit's(the REAL person) and take's them HOME to HEAVEN-----HE dosen't miss-a-one of them, not even Abortion's. So sad we don't get to know them down here, BUT WE WILL GET TO KNOW THEM IN HEAVEN, and there waiting for there MOM's and DAD's to get there too!!!!! They miss there Mom's and Dad's!!!!! Let's not Dissapoint them!!!! Ask JESUS to come into your HEART today, and get ready to ROCK (JESUS) and ROLL(roll on out to HEAVEN)!!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps!!!!!

Yes, obviously they are going to hell. Duh. Why? Because the bible says so, and the bible is right. Matter of fact, it is the only thing that is right out of the millions of other religions and cults ever created that rediculously thought that THEY had it right. And, by the way, it is completely right, without fault, and free of any errors from mistranslation or a lack of scientific knowledge during that era. Why, you ask? One word answer: Jesus. So there. Try to fight that logic.

People are taught that there is a hell to go to when they die if they have lived a sinful life. So when they are near death their brain conjures up all kinds of hell images to scare the s**t out of them if they have indeed lived lives which they were taught were sinful. On the other hand, they were taught they will go to heaven if they live righteous life. So when they are near death, their brain conjures up heavenly images to comfort them if they have lived lives which they were taught were righteous life. After they die it is ZILCH!

First of all, heaven is the place where God lives. And since God is holy and righteous, only people who has no sin and has the righteousness of God can go to heaven.
Those in the old testament who lived and died -- before Jesus died on the cross and resurrected again, were saved by their faith in what God's promises for the Deliverer.
God made an arrangement for them to sacrifice sheep or goat or bull as "a substitute" for them who were supposed to be dead because of their sin. They had to do it carefully according to the direction God gave them. They had to do it by faith, by believing in God. When they did it right, the righteousness of God was credited to them. So, they can go to heaven.
For example:
Hebrews 11:4
By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
Hebrews 11:17-19
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned." Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.
Hebrews 11: 24-28
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.
