- they should be adressing the cause of the water damage

- not familiar with the product "hardiplank" but typically there would be some form of "building paper" between the exterior sheathing and the structure

- if your sheetrock has been water damaged it should be removed and replaced - otherwise could bcome breeding gorund for mould spores

You don't truly state if the water damage exists and is visible both inside and outside. If it has intruded into the interior drywall then that drywall needs to be replaced.

Mold, especially black mold, will return even when something has been treated with bleach. It doesn't attack and grow in the drywall gypsum but will on the paper and through paint on drywall. I just a year ago had to replace all the drywall in an 11,000 sq. ft. building after they had tried cleaning and repainting.

The other issue, the hardi plank, sold at HD/Lowes and various others. What if any damage from water, was done to the existing siding? What is the existing siding? That too should be removed, replaced with plywood at least, then perhaps hardy plank over. BTW Hardiplank is a composite material, not very durable in the cases of water intrusion or damage.

Most importantly the reason or source of the water damage should be discovered and attended to, before any construction/repair is undertaken.

No offense to anyone but it sounds like whoever is doing the work is less than a quality organization.
