I take my dogs with me and park in the shade and leave windows rolled all the way down and carry water in my car for them, and never gone to long. I f some one tries to get them out they will be in for a big surprise, cause they will bite. (small rat terrior and chi/pomer mix)

From personal experience I can tell you why people take their animals with them in hot weather. Sometimes it was not hot when I started out on my day. Sometimes I was not going to be gone very long. Sometimes I was on my way to the lake and had to stop for supplies. But every time I stop my truck, I can tell you I do not roll my windows up, or keep them without water. I raise dogs so I know all the hazzards of a hot vehicle. Some people really don't realize how hot their cars do get. Some people just don't care. People need to realize that they need to leave their windows at least half-way down, and park in the shade if at all possible. And they need to plan the day out with their animal so that they don't come back to their car and have their beloved pet either dead or the police their waiting. I hope this answers your question.

oh, oh, OOOH, let me go on a rant!
When I was in high school working at Winn Dixie during a 90+degree day, while it was still in texas, a man left his dog in the car for at least two hours! A police officer who had come into the store to get a drink saw the dog in the car when he entered, and saw it when he went out. He asked me, I was retreiving grocery carts, how long the car had been there, I had only seen it about an hour ago, but the cop came in an hour before that. So the cop had us call for the owner of the vehicle over our PA system and wrote him a nice big ticket for animal cruelty, and he tacked on some other things as well. The owner was not at all pleased.
But my next rant!
Yesterday while at the store at about 4pm, here in texas temp was around 90, a woman leaves her daughter in their SUV with a baby or toddler. The windows were all the way up, which I hope means she left the car running so the AC was on, but if she did that then she left two kids in a running SUV with the keys still in the ignition.
Why Do People Set Their Kids Up To Be KIDNAPPED?????

Doesn't it make your blood boil? I have actually called the police from my cell phone and then waited until they showed up because of someone leaving a pet in a car in this kindof heat. I have seen idiots leave children in the car, too. Locally here just last winter, a guy got arrested for leaving a 6month old baby asleep in a car while he visited with someone in a convenience store. The baby ended up staying outside alone for nearly 4 hours before he checked on her, and by that time she was a victim of hypothermia. I can't think af a punishment that would be enough for people who do such things, child OR pet!!

Because people don't realize how hot it can get in just a minute. Why people take their animals everywhere only to leave them in a car is beyond me.

Because those people are stupid idiots. I live in Phoenix, AZ, and hear of those terrible tragities daily. Their punishment should be to lock THEM in a car in the heat for double the time they left their animal in it. -I wouldn't feel one bit bad for them. Also, every summer here, you hear of idiots leaving their BABIES in the car in a car seat to cook and (get brain damage if they survive) I can't even listen to any of those stories on the news anymore, I have to close my eyes, plug my ears and hum until they're over.

Because some people don't care enough about their pets to do what is necessary to protect them from the heat that builds up in a vehicle.

Because people don't stop to think when they put their dogs in the car. It's the same reason they don't put doggy seat belts on them or crate them in the car.

I agree, it seems people are recessing, becoming dumber and simpler as time progresses. Even worse than dogs, are people who forget and leave their children in burning hot cars...
