In my experience, it is the other way around :)
Dogs like anything they can chase. if a cat runs away, the dog will chase it. If it stands up for itself and growls and swats the dogs nose, it probably will back off...

Right now, between my own dogs and cats, and the ones I foster, I have 4 dogs and 5 cats. The baby kittens I am fostering, will snuggle right up to my 3 yr old dobie mix and sleep just under his chin. Most animals are either trained to attack or dislike another kind of animal, or when young, they have a bad experience with an animal, so they are reacting out of fear to protect themselves when that kind of animal comes around again. Last year I fostered 60 dogs, and everyone one of them did wonderfully with my 3 cats. The may have been curious, but they knew that they were not going to be allowed to hurt any thing, and responded appropriately.

Sum dogs don't really hate cats, but play with them. Some ppl think that since dogs play a lil but agressively to cats then that means that dogs hate the cats and vice versa.

I have one dog and two cats. The cat that ignores my dog gets ignored back. The Main Coon I have teases the dog and he will pounce at him and the "bicker", but they get along. You will want to have a dog on a leash to introduce them before trusting that he wouldn't be cat aggressive. Some breeds are more known to be cat agressive than others. I happen to have a Chow which are known for cat aggression and he is fine with my cats since he was raised with them.

Some dogs do hate cats, but most of them don't. It just depends on how well the animals can get along.

I have a pit bull and nine cats. When I leave the house I do crate her.
Sometimes I think she thinks that she is a cat. She sits on the end table (with the cats) and watches the birds at the bird feeders.
There are times when she bothers the cats too much but they warn her or bop her. And she listens to me if I tell her to come and stay.

Dogs usually are not afraid of cats. The cat is usually intimidated by the dog, and will attack it or run away, causing the dog to persue.

I don't think they hate 'em per say, I think they's just curious about 'em is all. If dogs could talk they'd probably have all kinds of questions for them, but they can't so they just chase them down, and the cat keeps on running and running and the dog probably ends up just gettin' all mad and eventually says to hell with it and bites 'em or swats them a good 'un with their paw.

Both my dogs love cats, they eat them regularly...NO, just kidding! My dogs do love my cats and sometimes they just want to play with other cats but the other cats don't want to.
Its all in how ya raise them.
