I think it is. The government isn't doing anything effective to solve the problem of illegal immigration. In fact, they are making matters worse with proposals like a guest worker program. Making English the official language is just a way to pacify angry American voters, so that politicians can keep ensuring a steady supply of cheap labor for greedy American businessmen, who are betraying their country for profits.

Its a distraction for sure, and it has almost no practical value. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it. And no doubt it has a certain surface appeal to those who don't think it through. But would it mean no more Spanish language newspapers? Nope. No more teaching in native languages in primary grades in school? Probably not. Would service workers still need to be able to speak another language? Probably (in L.A. you can't get a job in a fast food restaurant unless you're bi-lingual -- think about how many people that excludes).

In fact, it would mostly mean that the government is only required to conduct business in English. Of course if they want tax returns filed or foreign language criminals convicted the IRS and the courts will be doing business as usually: multilingually.

this could be an truly confusing question to respond to, even yet it realkly truly relies upon on your particluar perspective on the subject. with the aid of fact the country replace into based there replace into under no circumstances any regulation that formally dictated what the sturdy language of the U. S. is. it truly is often concept to be English, as that replace into what the founders of the country spoke while it replace into based and it truly is what maximum people who're born and raised in this u . s . a . study to talk. even however, there are some fantastically glaring problems. the 1st of this is that many non-english audio equipment, rather Spanish audio equipment come into the country daily. And data instruct that presently extra or less 12% of the U. S. inhabitants communicate Spanish as a first or 2nd language, which makes it the 5th best Spanish conversing u . s . a . interior the worldwide. yet now that i've got laid the data pertaining to to the placement out, right this is the place the troublesome section is available in. for many folk, the language thhat you communicate says lots approximately who you're and the place you come from, for glaring motives, and to tell somebody that they ought to verify a clean language while they flow to a distinctive u . s . a . could make people fell marginalized. So forcing yet another language onto a team of distant places language audio equipment is somewhat harsh. next, we ought to look at what an sturdy language is. the user-friendly definition of an sturdy language is the language that has a tendency to be the language spoken by making use of the final public of a rustic, and the only wherein maximum government buisiness happens in. As you will see that from the definition, that's no longer unavoidably as undesirable because it could look. The sturdy language does not propose that colleges ought to coach in that distinctive language, neither is it the language it truly is beneficial communicate at domicile. it truly is basically the language that the governement makes use of to habit its buisiness. This leaves a great sort of leeway in what language is spoken the place. in case you inquire from me, i do no longer think of it truly is a racist concept. actually, i do no longer think of that making the sturdy lanugage of the U. S. English is even a needed degree. it truly is fantastically lots known that folk interior the U. S. communicate English. yet as I mentioned formerly, forcing somebody to talk yet another language is a fantastically terrible ingredient to do, yet there is amazingly little that is executed to rigidity all of us team to talk a language.

English became the official language over 200 year ago. At that time the issue was between English and German. In fact I was looking up state laws and there is a law in Illinois that says it is illegal to speak anything except for English in the state of Illinois. Too bad they don't enforce it. Taxes would go down and maybe we could get rid of the tolls.

English is not America's language. English is England's language (I'm not entirely certain, but maybe that's why it's called 'English'? LOL)

Those Americans who think non-English-speaking immigrants should be sent home should learn Inuit or Arapaho if they want to be consistent!

Is there some reason all Americans can't learn English & Spanish? Most of the rest of the world speak two or more languages, are native-born Americans to dumb for this?

I think it's about time that they made English the official language, but I agree that it isn't going to do anything. Of course they want cheap labor, it saves them lots of money, and also those politicians just put more in their already thick pocket.
They aren't going to do anything about our illegals problem, I hate that they come here, and some of them have like four names, and they abuse the system so bad with WIC, food stamps, medicaid, all things that WE pay out of our taxes, and of course, since they are illegal they don't have a social security number, so they don't even have to pay taxes...it's not fair. They just want a hand out. (not all of them, but most of them) I think they should build a huge electric fence on the border for anyone who tries to cross it. That would stop them real quick!

NEWSFLASH: The USA has always had an underlying rule that English is the official language. Notice how all national services are in English only? Besides, America is a melting pot. English is already the official language.

No it is not.. I think they should have english the offical language that is what it has always been.. If you want to live here then learn how to speak our language.. That would be like a whole bunch of americans going to mexico or italy and saying ok we dont want to learn your language so you have to change it.. Thats just not right. if you want to live somewhere that speaks a different language you should learn how to speak it..

The current government is useless.

Time to bring out the Dustbuster and fill the capitol with fresh blood.
