I thought it said somewhere that Noah was to take 6 of every animal, and only 2 of unclean and unpure animal. If that is said in the bible, then why do biblical historians clutch to the idea that noah only took 2 of everything?

Genesis 7:2 (Bible ASV)Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals,[a] the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, 3and seven pairs[b] of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth.

2x2 or 6x6, animals taken on Noah's ark.?
Biblical historians? Hollywood and the lazy scholar maybe.
people say two-by-two because that's what they heard from somewhere and it would be correct to say 2 of every animal though not complete. because Noah took 7 of the clean (kosher)
animals. anyone that cares to read or can type now a days can find the correct answer. this is why the Bible tells us to study the Word for our self and to test the spirits. do not just take someones word that they speak from the Bible even a Pastor.
any person who is of God will tell you check out the Bible find it in the word. in the words of Reagan "trust but verify"

Biblical historians don't clutch to that idea
If anything, historians would get into specific detail.
It's the general public who simplifies the story for ease of telling. The same way the story of Adam and Eve is told with an apple, when in fact it was an unnamed forbidden fruit (more like a pear)
It makes the story simpler.
... and the numbers are 7 and 2

Genesis 7:2 says 7 male + female and 2 (only a couple) for unclean animals. In Sumerian mythology goes a similar story, but I don't know the right numbers in that. We have to understand that the Genesis is a abridged version of several Sumerian myths.
" According to Sumerian texts it was Enlil's rival brother Enki who instructed Utnapishtim/Noah how to construct an ark... Enki instructed Utnapishtim/Noah 'Aboard ship take thou the seed of all living things.." The instruction is most fascinating because since Enki had been the science officer involved in the genetic engineering of humans, it would seem plausible that he took DNa samples of all living things rather than a boatload of animals..."

It says in the Bible that Noah was told by God to take 7 of every clean animal and 2 of every unclean animal on the ark. This is true and if you don't believe me, look in the Bible and see for yourself about it.

The reason they took more clean animals on than unclean (who went two-by-two) is because God ordered Noah to make a sacrifice of some of the clean animals after the flood was over. If he would've taken just 2 of the clean animals, then they would no longer be in existence today.

This really depends on what version of the bible you read. Some versions state 1 pair of every unclean animal and 7 clean. Some state 1 pair of unclean animals and 7 pairs of clean. Some state 2 pairs of unclean animals and 7 pairs of clean animals.

I can't think of where it refers to the 6 thing.
Anyway, many bible scholars believe the whole story to be symbolic, and that the flood actually never happened. I believe it to be literal because I live in the mountains and there are sea shell fossils everywhere here, even on the tops of the mountains.
I guess this is a question to add to the list of "Things to ask God when I see him next". I have a really long list already . . . LOL

Two by Two...
It has been disputed that Noah's Ark couldn't hold all of the animals (follow think below for more information --> christian answers).
But before the great flood, God instructed Noah to build an ark (gave description on how to build it, scale, size, planks of wood.. the works).
He then instructed Noah to bring a male and female of every animal aboard the ark to survive the flood.
Read the link below for more information...
I hope this helps!

Genesis 6:19
Of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark.
Genesis 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
Genesis 7:9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
Confusing, isn't it...

The bible specifically says that Noah was commanded to take 2 of every animal, and he did. I don't know where you heard the 6x6 but whatever the bible says is true. He took 2 of each animal.
