Because switches are real, electricity is real, and light bulbs are real. Guess what isn't real, though?

It's not the same thing. Almost everytime you go to throw the switch for the light, it will work, so it's not really "faith" that you have when you think it's going to come on. And when it doesn't come on, it's easy to fix.
Faith in God is completely different, because religious faith is "blind." There is no proof for God (perhaps he exists, perhaps not) and so that is quite different than throwing a light switch and thinking it will work.
And as to living for nothing, that's not the case at all. I live to try and make the world a better place in one lifetime, and since there's only so much time, why waste some of it trying to save your own soul?
It's hard to be an atheist most of the time, between the hate so many show you and how everybody thinks you have to know everything, and when you don't get all over you. I used to be a Christian and it was a lot easier then than being an atheist now, but my resolution remains as strong as ever.

You know, when I was a child, my life was in darkness... Confused by a variety of different concepts of God and an inability to understand 'what God wanted', as so much conflicted with itself... For me, the realisation that all prophets were false prophets and that we all had to find our own reason to live was very much like a light being switched on - it brought truth, clarity and purpose to my life. The Light of Truth made me realise that we are accountable to others - not to some superstition - and it made me feel honoured to bear that responsibility.
A switch turns on a light because it was created by humans. I'm very patient. I've waited 31 years for a 'sign' and haven't seen one yet. Humanity has waited 10,000 years for a 'sign', and it hasn't come yet. But you're right... it takes time...
By the way my commitment and my strength are second to none. Your implication otherwise is insulting.

I'd imagine because people "understand how" a light switch works...It's something tangible that they can see, and understand.
Where as believing God, requires "faith" (believing in something you can not see, and something you don't understand completely)...people are reluctant to believe & trust in something they can't tangibley understand.
I believe though - so, I guess God has gotten me pass the whole "I need to know how this is wired" phase.
Good question!

Uh because turning a light switch on is real, man. That question makes no sense. Did you not study any science in school at all? Or have you been living in a whale your whole life?
