I have a yellow and orange striped 1 1/2 year old male cat. When I go to pick him up, though, he usually runs away, and he won't respond to the treats anymore. Does anyone know why this is, and how I can get my cat to like me again?

Take him to the vet. Usually a stark difference in a cats behavior is due to a medical problem. Has he been neutered? Has anything happened to scare him and/or have you accidently scared him and dont realize it? Again, vet is the best choice.

Maybe your cat just doesn't like being picked up. To reconnect with my cats i ususally find them when they are laying down and sit next to them. Be gentle. Let her sniff your hand and give you permission before u pet her then just pet her a while eventually she should let you pick her up if not that's ok she probably just doesn't like it. DId this used to happen? If this is just recent there may be something wrong so take her for a check up at the vet.

Some cats don't like to be picked up or held.
All cats hate being chased and being forced to do anything they haven't decided to do on thier own.
You have to let him come to you. From now on, he only gets treats when he comes over for a cuddle. Make it a good thing for him to come over to you and never try to hold onto him if he wants to leave. Cats do their own thing and can't be forced. Bribery, on the other hand, works great.

has your boy been neutered?? He could just be growing away from you because he want to be out tomming. As for treats, try something new, sometimes they get bored with the same old thing. Get some new toys and play with him to interact with him.

Maybe he just doesn't like to be picked up. If he learned that treats mean that he's going to be picked up, then he'll ignore him. Try giving him the treats and not even touching him when you give them to him for awhile. Also try just petting him and not picking him up and see if that helps any. Good luck!

Some cats don't like to be picked up. My three love to lay in my lap and be petted, but picking-up is a no-no.

Take your time, let your boy know you won't pick him up again. He'll warm to you in time.
