I've got about 5 bananas in the fridge, all black as night. I'd say they are about a week old. How long can banana's last in the fridge for the purpose of being mashed up into banana bread before they need to be chucked?

If you freeze them, they keep well for about 6 months or so.

Don't keep bananas in the fridge - they'll go black.

Keep them on your counter - or better yet hanging.

For banana bread they'll need to be quite soft, but not too mushy.

if you cannot make the bread now, and the bananas arent rotten, throw them in the freezer until you can use them.
leave the bananas in the fridge the night before you want to use them and then boom,,, bake away.

I usually only use black banana's for banana bread. IT turns out pretty tastey believe it or not. And add a few mini chocolate chips. Try it and see.

the color brown is a good indication that they are no longer good, but when all else fails try a taste test!
