In my opinion and based on what I have owned for the past 5 years.I would not spend the money for a plasma or a flatscreen tv.The best value for the buck that I found and have been very satisfied with si the RCA 52" hdtv ready big screen from Wal-Mart.It has all the different connections to hook up stereo, dvd, vcr, satellite and anything else I may want to add.The picture is crystal clear and it has never let me down. You can purchase a new one from Wal-Mart for around $1197 plus tax.If you have a $1500 budget then you could still accomidate this system with a Sony surround sound dvd home theater system and still have money left over. They ssound great together.

Good luck with your choice

I've personally never seen one that cheap. The new HP Plasma 42" is pretty good and it's around $1600 when it's on sell at Best Buy. Go in and check it out. I think the normal price for it is around $1800 or $1900. Best Buy has a thing going on right now where you get no interest for 2 years or something like that. You might check into that.

Get a DLP projection set. You can get a great quality samsung for $1499. They have built in HD tuners and supports resolutions up to 720p (1280x720 pixels). If it receives an 1080i signal, it will convert it to 720p.

I've owned a 42" DLP for 2 1/2 years, and it rocks!!! I have my computer hooked up to it so it acts as a computer monitor. Video games & HD programming are amazing - definitely get a DLP.

Plasmas are good, but are expensive and susceptible to burn-in. Not all Plasmas are HD - some are only EDTV. All DLP sets are HD.

HP Plasmas..All of them....Also I think you should spend the extra 250-300 for a PL5060N on ebay....YOU WILL LOVE IT and be hailed as the king of plasma by all of your friends...

Your best bet is to go to your local bookstore and buy a Consumer Report magazine or book. Or go to the library and check out a Consumers Report. They always have great recommendations. You can also check out their site.

Depending on your intended use, I would go for a projector. I went the projector route a year ago and love it. My current screeen size is 120", and I paid $1K.
