Tehran, Iran, Jan. 06 – An Iranian court has sentenced a teenage rape victim to death by hanging after she weepingly confessed that she had unintentionally killed a man who had tried to rape both her and her niece.

The state-run daily Etemaad reported on Saturday that 18-year-old Nazanin confessed to stabbing one of three men who had attacked the pair along with their boyfriends while they were spending some time in a park west of the Iranian capital in March 2005.

Nazanin, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, said that after the three men started to throw stones at them, the two girls’ boyfriends quickly escaped on their motorbikes leaving the pair helpless.

She described how the three men pushed her and her 16-year-old niece Somayeh onto the ground and tried to rape them, and said that she took out a knife from her pocket and stabbed one of the men in the hand.

As the girls tried to escape, the men once again attacked them, and at this point, Nazanin

As the girls tried to escape, the men once again attacked them, and at this point, Nazanin said, she stabbed one of the men in the chest. The teenage girl, however, broke down in tears in court as she explained that she had no intention of killing the man but was merely defending herself and her younger niece from rape, the report said.

The court, however, issued on Tuesday a sentence for Nazanin to be hanged to death.

Last week, a court in the city of Rasht, northern Iran, sentenced Delara Darabi to death by hanging charged with murder when she was 17 years old. Darabi has denied the charges.

…If you think this won’t be carried through…

In August 2004, Iran’s Islamic penal system sentenced a 16-year-old girl, Atefeh Rajabi, to death after a sham trial, in which she was accused of committing “acts incompatible with chastity”.

More on the judge who sentenced Nazanin to death for self defence. On the other 16 year old girl he personally hung for having sex.

So what was the judge (one Haji Rezaie) doing sentencing an "unchaste" 16-year-old to hang? He said that she had a "sharp tongue" and had "undressed in court".
It seems that all she did was to take off her headscarf and insist that she was the victim of an older man's advances: …Nevertheless, the judge was so outraged that he decided he would personally put the noose round the child's neck.

You seem to aggree with those practices putting down those against them.

Likewise you ever had a boyfriend and done anything sexual... care to put the rope around you own neck...?

Oh and I forgot... Did not muhummed marry a nine year old so if Im a looser for criticising that... would that not make you a supporter or peadophilia?

Seeing as you don't have a poroblem them those things like the hanging of nazim but put down those who have a problem with murdeing teenage girls for having a boyfriend...

I think that everytime someone criticises islam there's always a barrage of outrage and people go on to make comparisons as a way of avoiding being thought of as offensive or not politically correct or racist. We know these things go on and most of the world keeps quiet or turns the other cheek. Or if they dont fully understand it they resort to name calling. Everytime something heinous happens in the west or involving another religion people are soon up in arms and demanding action or change. Whenever it involves muslim countries we're more or less told to butt out and are inundated with past histories and so on and so forth. Instead of the here and now. Where are the protestors against crimes such as these, they're quick enough for everything else.

Joey mate I understand that a lot of things that happen in places like Iran and afganistan are inhumane but it is not because of the religion. The crimes you highlight include death + torture for not conforming to their societys norms towards sexuality. Take a look at the history of christian nations plenty of people have been persecuted in many similar horrible ways for not conforming to norms of sexuality set out by the bible, pope or any other authority of christian morality. It is not about which religion a nation has, it is about how they have grown to except each other beliefs and desires. At the moment in Iran there is a gigantic movement sweeping the country pushing for change. The people in this movement care about the same things that you do, they do not want to see people getting stoned just because they had sex or want to be christian. This movement is mainly made up of Irans young people which is around 70% of the total population. Some are turning atheist some are devout muslims but they all want Iran to recognise human rights more and they want to embrace western culture more. All this is going on in the country I think you bought up most in your examples.

A book that has been very useful to me when it comes to understanding Iran has been "We are Iran" - Nasri Alavi ISBN 1846270014.

It is a huge translation of hundreds if not thousands of Iranian blogs originally written in Farsi. The blogs present an opportunity to express themselves freely that has not been permitted in print for a long time. If you want to understand islam and Iran better then this would be a good book to start because it has many views of ordinary people within its pages.

I think the world is an enormousley complex and distorted place which has many different and varied sources of evil and they cant be put under a banner as broad as a single religion.

I hope I have helped answer your question. Good luck.

Humans created religion, humans are evil, therefore religion is evil. When you read these stories, it is not god, angels, saints or any other holy entety commiting these acts, it is a human being in the name of the religion they have accepted, a religion created by the human mind. If islam is evil what bout the spanish inquisition, let us not forget abot that, or all the other crimes christians, catholics, muslims, and other religions have commited in their own selfish name.

I know I have read the horrors that go on over there it is all over and I believe that God is helping it to be exposed. From female circumcism to the other brutal acts prepatrated on women.
They are a vicious people who treat women so cruel.
the number one cause of death among women is sucide.
Women are sold to the highest bidder and then tortured the rest of their life. It is so horrible, we in America cannot even imagine what they are made to endure.

The essence of Islam is not bad, the misinterpretation of the teachings can be, power is very strong and can be negative. Maybe you should word your question in a legible way otherwise you appear to be a misinformed ignoramus !

Islam isn't evil intrinsically, but it does have a minority of nut cases who spout rubbish like this. JUST LIKE EVERY RELIGION. There are fundamentalist head cases in each one. Most followers of Islam or any other religion just want to go about their daily business without any trouble.

ALL religions have done things like this in their history, not just Islam. If you look hard enough you'll find many atrocities done in the name of every religion on this planet to fellow human beings.

Islam isn't evil. The zealous Muslims are. Same thing with Christians. If the US were a Christian run nation, then the same things would be happening here.

Your question is confusing. I hope your not a christian because if you are youre a damned hypocrite. Also an amazing number of people have died at the hands of christians, this doesnt mean christianity itself is evil. I do think its fiction though
