Many would suppose that in order to have faith one must be blind to the concept of evidence and what that evidence means to those who do not believe. Why is it so difficult to accept the concept that, if there is proof, many other people may begin understanding, or even believing?

Why must anyone who asks a person of a religious faith for proof , the asker gets "shut down" by ultimatums (i.e., "either you belive or you don't")? More over, a response that vaguely says 'you have to believe because the Bible says so'...?

Why are the same people unwilling to truly and openly debate the origins of the Bible, the alleged stories or accounts that occured, the existence or non-existence of a supreme being on a level that removes faith, bible verses, or hateful remarks from their responses?

Why is it now "okay" for some breeds of Christianity to accept the "Big Bang" theory, or even some form of evolution -so long as their God initiated those events?

Why be so blind to a world of thought?

Oh, do not be confused. I am NOT conflicted in my personal beliefs (or non-belief). Make no mistake that I know exactly where I stand on spiritual matters.

PLEASE! No more circulat references! I understand that "faith is faith" and I understand the definition of faith.

Many of you are not addressing the issue (as predicted AND identified in my question). Many of you are not THINKING, even though I've made my point abundantly clear!

Thanks to all those with the cheers, jeers, "Good question!" remarks.

I need to be thoughtfully engaged, and I'm not implying that my intelligence exceeds anyone elses, but I'm certainly not - NOT clearly conveying my thoughts.

It's like talking to a fu(%in' brick wall most of the time -which I suppose is one of my more subtle points.

That said, I think I answered my own question: Faith is blind because no one can think for themselves!

I think you are the one who is blinded. Faith is based on a relationship with God, not some pie-in-the-sky type of belief. There is an actual process a person goes through when they are saved, and since you obviously haven't been, you can't begin to understand it, therefore, you need to rephrase your question. It should read "I don't understand faith, please explain it".

I never have heard anyone get "shut down", that is your own perception. The idea that "you believe or you don't" is true, basically, how can someone who believes explain that to you because you already have your own preconceived (and incorrect) notions about Christianity. They are giving you a good answer, though be it quick and simple. If you don't believe, you can't begin to possibly understand what it is, we can only tell you that if you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you will understand. So, will you right now accept Him?

As far as some "breeds" (the correct word is denominations) of Christians accepting the "big bang" theory...huh? We don't believe in evolution...if you want to see proof, just go to the zoo. Tell me, are there apes there? I rest my case. If evolution were true, there would be no apes there.

We are the ones with eyes wide open. The world is in the dark. Don't believe me, just see what the Bible says, it's all there.

Nicely put.

But the fact of the matter is, and this is why the monotheistic religions of the world have ingrained this behavior in people... quite simply, it is obvious to anyone that views the evidence, that religion, as a whole, is nonsense.

The people that designed these cults knew that the only way to keep their members in line was to eliminate the possibility of their questioning what they're told. They used fear, more than anything else, to make this happen.

And they've done a hell of a job with it. It's lasted 2000 years. And it's really quite amazing that even with the advent of the internet, television, radio, and our educational system, that there are still people out there today who flatly refuse to acknowledge the glaring evidence that disproves their beliefs. It's right in front of them, but they are so brainwashed by these cults, that they can actually convince themselves to ignore it.

It's truly fascinating.

Faith would not be Faith if there were proof and evidence. That is the beaty of Faith.

Faith and science are two different things. If you want someone of Faith to debate on scientific grounds you should research St. Thomas Acquinas, possibly one of the most brilliant minds this world has seen.

Myself, I have Faith and that is good enough for me. Blind as I may be.

faith is "blind" b/c it is faith. it's something you cannot see

it's like believing in anti-matter. modern sub-atomic physics tells us that for every piece of matter in this universe there is an "anti" equal - something w/the the exact same characteristics only exactly oppositely charged. it tells us this b/c the math tells us it must be so. but no ones ever seen it. no one, as far as i know, has ever seen an anti-electron, but most physicist believe in their existence. that sounds a lot like faith to me

i hope the ultimatum giving, b/c the "bible says so" crowd aren't the only christians you come in contact with. what a boring group

Well, when you SEE something, you no longer need to believe in it. Faith is knowing w/out seeing.
Its hard for atheists and the like to understand, b/c they have NO faith. They don't know what it is.
And some sop-stories like "oh, I used to believe in God, but..." are just crap, if they once had faith, why would they let it go? The answer is, they wouldn't, they just never really had faith to begin w/.
B/c to get faith, you need to accept first. Then God gives you faith, and it grows as you mature in Christ.

Human nature sometimes is so terrible that even plenty of evidence in front of them, they will still give plenty of reasons to deny them.

Therefore, believing certain evidence also need faith.

To some people it's not blind....some people who believe enough and hard enough see a light at the end of their journey....not everyone is that lucky, but I think that it's blind only to those who don't understand.

God Bless

Faith is just that simple -- it's faith.

No one is blind to other options. We make a conscious choice to believe. If you would too, then you wouldn't be so conflicted in life and trying so hard to "prove" your opinions to yourself.

because when you lack evidence to support your case then all you can do is avoid a serious debate by rambling off bible passages.
