The reason for this question is if you look at the amount of american companies that own canadian companies and the amount of untapped resources in canada not to mention fresh water don't you feel that it is just a matter of time before the united states will need those resources and land to continue to thrive?

I think it's just as much crap as the US marrying up with Mexico. I don't think the voters would support it, and frankly we don't 'need' their resources. Hear me out, on this one:
Water: We already waste more water than you can shake a stick at, every rainstorm is a MASSIVE opportunity to fill every lake in america, and then have some left over you just don't know what to do with. We call it 'flooding' when there's leftovers, and every year we have floods, some states have those every year. So, you build more reservoirs.
Trees: It takes something like 20 years, I heard, to grow a tree of usable proportions. Every year we wipe out future timber with the christmas trees. Get a plastic christmas tree, you just added 200,000 board-feet to the future inventoryl If we had a national tree-planting day, hell I think they already do, arbor day, but if people actually participated in that, you'd have more timber than you could possibly use.
Fuel: Hydrogen and solar and ethanol are coming on strong, slower in the US than overseas, but they're happening.
There's not much besides fuel and timber that we really need from Canada, and the way the world's shaping up, the sooner we become energy, water, and timber-independent in america, the better off we'll be. See how that works? Declaration of Independence+resource independence=rest of world wiping own *** and solving own problems. Cool, huh? LOL

I like the idea of this. Check these sites out

With the rising emerging superpowers of Indian, China, European Union, and Russia. Also with a South American League of Nations getting more serious, I think globalization may be the future to this world. North America may have to unite to compete seriously in this world. United States and Canada would be a great team.

Mexico- I don't know. They would need to fix their own problems first. I am not saying the US shouldn't help them though. They have to fix their overpopulation, pollution, corruption in government, etc.. first. Then they should join the union.

United we stand, divided we fall.

USA rules. Canada drools...especially Montreal. All those damn canadians speaking french. yuckky french....and the rest of the country speaking english...its kinda like being in Miama.

While we're at it, lets take over cuba along with mexico. Do you see all the great beachfront property in cuba? Obviously we have the troops and the millitary force - so lets invade mexico instead of iraq. At least, we the american people, would benefit from taking over mexico... and canada.

I don't think the good people of Canada would like to give up the sovereignty of their nation so that we can tap their untapped resources.

Robin Williams once said something to the effect that Canada is the tenant in the loft apartment wishing he could be cool like his downstairs neighbor, the US, but knowing that he never will.

If Bush, Fox and Blair get their way with this NAFTA super highway, not only will the US and Canada be one country, but you can throw in Mexico too. This is what the plan is. Look it up.

I would like to see that.
Canada and Mexico should be part of the USA. Then we could go anywhere in the North American continent.

Wouldn't be too big of a change... But national pride will (rightfully) never allow that to happen. Canadians and Americans are both strong and independent and should remain that way.
