A mohawk is deviant behavior? What? He's a cute little punker!

As I tell everyone who thinks i am crazy for letting my 8 year old color his hair green, (wash out mind you), it is just a phase, it is only hair, and it is HIS hair on HIS head. Let him be his own person as much as possible. A silly haircut, some color, or wearing clothes that others think are ridiculous is a way of someone being their own person. Having their own personality and not succumbing to being what everyone else is and wants them to be. I encourage my kids to have their own mind. Not do what everyone else does. It creats a strong person. Builds character and teaches them that they dont have to be "just like" someone else. It is hurting no one. If someone complains, tell them not to look at it if they dont like it. You are a great parent for letting him express himself! Kudos to you.

I am a hairstylist and I believe it is great to express individuality through hair. I don't believe it is appropriate to give a 5 year old a mohawk even if he likes it. It just sends a message that it is okay for people to laugh or make fun of your child. Children can be cruel and your son can face alot of ridicule from other kids. It is distracting and invites alot of negative attention. It also may make other people question your parenting. Mohawks remind me of trailer trash or some type of celebrity following. It also reminds me of the type of parent that is living their dream through their child and wants to be rebellious. He is too young, why subject him to this. Sounds like he has a broken home and next thing I bet you will do is get him a tatoo and think that is cool.

For a five year old its fine, but chop it before he gets older. Fashion is powerful, it chooses who you associate with.

When he gets older do you want a punk-butt kid, cause if not you shouldn't let that happen. Let him wear the fashion ,and you are letting him get with the people who live the fashion ,and he'll become the equivalent of the 10 people he's around most, so if your not a strong enough influence to overcome the influence of the punks the mo-hawk will get him in with when he's older, then you should chop it before he gets older..... beside most mo-hawk kids are fat and/or unpopular and/or reaching for attention and/or have an attitude problem. Yours won't be like that, your too caring, but do you want him hanging out with the kids who are like that?

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I actually think that is adorable. When my son is old enough to make those decisions then I would let him have a Mohawk.

You have to not care what other people are thinking. It is not hurting your son at all in any way whatsoever. It may even be helping him to have some individuality which is a wonderful thing

No. My youngest stepson (6) has one right now, a small one, because his mom messed up when she was cutting his hair. She wanted to finish and just give him a complete buzz but he loved the mohawk.

Bottom line - it's hair, he's more than likely going to end up with a number of different hair styles as he grows up. With so many truly important areas in life there's really not a need to pick a battle over a hair style.

No, not at all. Children should be encouraged to be themselves, and it is great that you let him be him. I am not saying let kids do WHAT EVER they want, their are rules and expectations that they must abide by, but a hair style is not going to hurt anything. Parents have to learn how to focus on the important things and let some things go.Choice of a hair style is certainly one of those things that a parent should let go. It is more important for a parent to focus on character development, dietary, and educational concerns. Choose your battles. A hair style is not worth a battle. Good for you for letting your 5 year old be a 5 year old, and good for you for letting your son make some personal choices.

No, not wrong really. The way I view it, let him make his own style mistakes and live to regret it. LOL.

My husband was deadset on having long stringy hair when he was young (that fun grunge 90's era). If his parents hadn't let him he would have had a fit and wouldn't have learned anything. So they let him. Now, when he looks back at those pictures, it's with a tinge of regret and a bit of laughter. At least he learned a lesson!

very sturdy threat if he says it hurts then it truly is, truly if he's not circumsised. often the forskin could be too tight. deliver it up with the well being care expert. there is cream he can get which will soften the foreskin and it will end it hurting. tell him it is common to have it flow difficult. in case your husband waits on your son to ask then he may be waiting an prolonged time. it truly is the pastime as a parent to coach those issues to them as mandatory. to no longer wait till he asks as some teenagers under no circumstances will.

There is no problem with your son having a mohawk. If he enjoys having it and it is what he wanted there is no problem whatsoever. If you or your partner did it to make him appear "tough" then that could be a mistake and get him off on a bad start. But otherwise..let his creative juices flow!

It's a good thing to let your child do this because he likes it and as long as YOU lead him in the right direction, even if he has a mohawk he'll be fine!

I personally don't think it is right to let your 5 year old get a mohawk ... They end up getting looks from people, and people may question your parenting skills...
