put your dog up for stud in a newspaper. a stud is where someone brings in their dog so it can mate with your dog and you can sell the puppies 50/50, make sure the stud is the same breed as your dog so it is a purebreed

Really BAD idea! Male dogs don't need to be bred to feel "like a man". Mating a terrier can cause the dog to start many behavior problems and become a lot more aggressive. He may start lifting his leg in the house to mark his territory. He may hump your leg or your kids.

Breeding should only be done to improve the breed and provide buyers with great dogs, not to make money. If you decide to go ahead anyway, take your dog to some shows and ask judges and handlers whether he is good quality - good enough to breed and that he has no major faults that he could pass on. A male should really be a champion.

Then make sure your dog and the female you're going to breed to are both tested for Brucellosis - a canine VD. She could give it to him even if he's never been bred before. Definitely do NOT breed your dog at your own home - that will double the likelihood that you will have behavior problems. Make sure the female is firmly held and muzzled - if she doesn't want to be bred, she could rip your dog up and bite you.

Why do you want to "mate" your dog? The correct term, actually, is "breed" your dog. Have you had all the health testing done on him? Check with the Scottish Terrier breed club in your area. There you can find experienced breeders who are willing to help novices.

Have you entered your boy in any shows? If not, check that out as well.

Dog fancy magazines usually have the names of numbers of breeders in the back. You can also look in the paper for people selling scottish terriers and call them and see if they would like a stud. Also try putting up his picture and a flyer at a vet's office.

The local newspaper, as suggested, is a good source. Also, check the AKC for breeders or clubs in your area and contact them. Be sure the dog you breed to has the appropriate papers and is checked out by a vet to be sure she is healthy.

Another tip -- Be very clear and in writing what you expect from the breeding -- pick of the litter, percent of sales of extra puppies, etc.

Get him a pillow to hump. Oh, sorry. Why do you want to mate him? Just so he can have the "pleasure" (trust me, I've actually heard someone use this reasoning)? There are way too many dogs in the world already, do everybody (especially the dogs) a favor and get him neutered.

Put an ad in the paper advertising for female to mate with. Be sure to ask for papers that way you know if female is genuine.

I'd start with some good info on breeding.

Then ,have all the suggested health tests done for your breed.
Show him to championship if you expect to charge money.
Advertise the dog to approved bitches only so you don't pollute your breed withjunk dogs .
c.p.

you should look around your neighborhood but don't put an advertisement in the newspaper. the dogs from the newspapers tend to be more aggresive. make sure the girl dog is pure so you can have purebreed puppies.
