I am from Chalmette and I lost my son's shot records. His doctor's office was also located in Chalmette. I am trying to find a way to obtain this information. I can not contact his school because it was a private owned business and I hadn't given them his records.

You may not be able to get the records, if you've already tried the doctor, the health department, and any schools that may have ever made a photocopy of the records. I see on the map that Chalmette was likely affected by Hurricane Katrina, so the records may have been destroyed, unfortunately.

However, if you need to prove vaccination, you can have the child's blood tested to establish that he's immune to the various things, and that works as well as immunization records, in proving immunity. That way you don't have to re-do all the vaccines. There is a risk to every vaccine, every medication in fact, and if you know your kid had them all, then it's an entirely unnecessary risk.

Or, if you just have to have the records for school, generally on the back side of the immunization form, there's a place to sign that you choose not to vaccinate. You can go that route to make life easier on the kid, if you know he was vaccinated and you'd rather not re-do all vaccinations or do blood testing to prove it. It may be a separate form, as schools would rather you vaccinate than exercise your right to say no thanks, so you might have to ask for it.

If you re-do all vaccines, keep in mind that the mercury-free vaccines use aluminum as the preservative, both of which have some risks, so space them out enough to let the metal get out of his system before you do the next one, and ask for the vaccines to be preservative-free. Some are available in that form. There's a lot of controversy about what these metals do to a body, but it doesn't take a genius to realize that it's probably best to limit exposure to either metal, regardless of what studies show.

You will most likely have to physically go to the doctor's office in which the shots were given and provide your ID and some other info before they will re-release the information to you. Most offices will not simply send you information unless you can prove who you are. Just take a trip there, give them the info and they can pull his record and give you a copy.

Contact your County Health Department, or the State Health department...one or the other should have all of your sons records in a data base.

Contact the doctor's office where he got all his shots and ask for a copy of his records and they should give you one.

When I graduated from adult education, in order to get my diploma I had to get my shot records. They told me to go to the health department in the county that I got them in. I called ahead and picked them up. If you can not reach them by phone try a web site and mailing a letter if going there is not an option. But keep calling that is where you will get it from.
