Anyone have a good idea for a cake? I am getting married next weekend. Need some help. Also any good ideas on what to do if can't hire a photographer? Should I pass out cameras?

In our area several of the supermarkets have delis which make good cakes and they do wedding cakes however I'm not sure of the time line. Perhaps a smallish 2 tier cake with a topper could be made for the ceremonial cutting and pictures, and sheet cakes from the deli bakery could be used for serving. I have been to weddings where there were cameras passed out but then the couple ended up with 8 to 10 cameras with very few pictures on them. Perhaps you could get a couple of close friends or relatives to take snaps.

If you cannot get a neighborhood bakery to come up with a wedding cake in a pinch, here is one thing you can do:

If you have a Michaels craft store where you live they have a wedding section that has different height cake pedestals appropriate for a wedding. Then you can either get silk flowers there or get fresh flowers to surround the pedestals. You can go to a bakery and get an assortment of their premade cakes (ala Just Desserts) with white icing. You can decorate the cakes with flowers.

You can have the cakes delivered and have someone with an artsy bent in your family or of your friends to take them out of the cakes out of the boxes, put them on pedestals, and decorate with flowers. Perhaps your caterer or florist can do this.

You can pass out cameras, but you want to have a few people who have a nice camera provide you some better quality photos.
You can pay to have them put on CD and do the processing yourself.

Remember, don't worry if things are not perfect. If at the end of your wedding day you end up married -- it is a complete success!

Have a lovely time!

Not sure about the cake.
The photographs: I didn't have a photographer, my brother had a camcorder and filmed the wedding, plus my parents took pictures, and I had my soon to be sister-in-law take pictures of my husband & me. Of course I supplied all the film. At the reception I layed camera's on the tables so people could take pictures for us. Just to let you know about that if you put the cameras on the tables announce that they are for the bride and groom so please leave them on the tables when the reception is over. I had a couple of mine taken because people thought they where party favors.

Good-Luck and Lots of Happiness your way

I did a cupcake tree - an 8" round cake on top so I could have a caketopper, then several similarly decorated cupcakes. It was great! Saved from having to make a mess of the cake! I had them iced differently according to flavor - pink icing=chocolate, white icing=white cake.

I would be glad to send a pic!

As far as the pictures... find a friend or relative who wouldn't mind taking some shots. My sister-in-law took some shots that the photographer missed!

Yes, do the cameras on the table for candids. But, I still recommend having a photographer for a couple of hours. The differences in the photographs of a good photographer and those from amateurs with disposable cameras are amazing. You won't regret it.

Traditional wedding cake would be an option, but whatever you are interested in, they can make; NASCAR, beach, skiing, etc. You need to order it now for next weekend, if you can still get it. Passing out cameras would be your best bet, but do take some of yourself. Good Luck!

Busken or Meijers bakeries are quick. Try something simple with live flowers. Tasteful, but easy. Hire a photography student from a college to save $$ and booking at the last minute shouldn't be a big deal to a student.

stacks of fairy cakes are great, you can make the yourself if you are on a tight budget. Or a french dessert (croquembouche...sorry that;s not spelt right) but it's like a big stack of profiteroles, that's also great as you can serve that instead of dessert

As for cameras then yes, get loads of disposable ones and give them to the guests

If it is a simple wedding, get a plain sheet cake with white frosting and a heart cake with white frosting placed on top of the sheet cake. Then, put roses, etc., on it.

Costco cakes with butter cream frosting taste great! Sounds like fun to have your guests take pictures and you will get all kinds of fun shots.
