Tell your sister-in-law to stop wasting her time freaking out and start coming up with an idea to tell her parents about what happened.

So sad. Her parents need to be told as soon as possible so they won't hear it from someone else and as she is there sharing this news, you be there for her (and them). As other posters have stated, they have seen many go before them already but it is always sad to know someone has died. Time is a healer. Your sister-in-law will be okay - she just needs to heal and get will get on with it.

Uh, well, since it wasn't their kid, I can't see how they would be devasted, just sad and upset. And at 86 and 84, I'm pretty sure they've come to terms with their mortality. That does suck though.

They simple need to be told. She seems to be one taking it hard. Her parents depending on how close they were to their nephew are more than capable of handling the news. It maybe they can provide a very good support system to the nephew's parents as well their daughter.

her parents are very old and have dealt with more death that she has. They will be sad of course but it won't send them into cardiac arrest.

The presence of family and friends is the best way to handle this sudden tragedy.

God Bless your Family.

I'm so sorry! Eventually she will, humanly lose them. But it's only the body that does. The memories and the spririts don't. It's always hard to lose a loved one, but they will always be with us. You can tell her that. They will always be with her, in spirit.

Just be there for her, Amber. She will take comfort in your presence and with your willingness to help should it be needed.
