you can potty train your puppy in 1-2 wks flat, but you have to be vigilant and consistent. We can do it in 1 week, but i have to take that time off from work. Never had a problem. Like another user said, the puppy must go out every 2-3hours, consistently even if they don't have to go. Use a crate and NO food or water after 7pm every day. You sleep on the couch closest to the exit door the puppy will use. Get your alarm clock and set for every (2) hours, day & night and take puppy out and give command 'go potty', if he goes praise..praise and kisses, back in the crate. Next (2) hours again, trust me they learn real quick, that he has to go OUTSIDE for his business! good luck

I've had several dogs and I have trained them without potty pads, newspapers, etc. Of course, you have to remember that they will have a few accidents while they are learning. keep them confined to the kitchen or a hard floor so the smell of pee will not deter them during training. Take her outside and place her on the grass. Say "outside"a few times. When she goes, say "good girl!" and be ready to reward her with a dog biscut or a bite size carrot. Keep her on a tight potty schedule so she will learn when to expect to go out.... 7am, 9:30 11, 1, 3:30, 6, 8, 10:30 before bed. After a few days she will get it. (If she pees on the floor, lead her to it and say no several times and point. she will know that it si not good. right after you show her, take her outside and let her pee using the above training.

Puppies need a schedule. (over time, they will naturally have to potty at that certain, scheduled time) They also need to be put out to potty AS SOON as they wake up, right after they play, and right after they eat. Also: a great way for the puppy to let you know they need outside (without scratching your door to pieces), is to hang a string of bells beside the door, and teach the puppy to ring the bells when they need to go out. (It works!!!) You get the puppy by the bells and see if you can get them to tug the string. (or nudge it, whatever works), then, as soon as the bells has been rung, take the dog out. They make a quick connection that the sound of the bells means they will be let out.

The way we did it was get the puppy to urinate on some newspapers. Then leave it there with a bunch of newspapers near a door (Yes It will stink). The dog will usually go excrete where it has excreated before. Then slowly phase the newspaper out toward the exterior. When the puppy realizes that it needs to go outside to excrete, it should wait near the door. Make sure that you monitor for this signal to let it out immediately.

Remember: dogs are not born knowing they go outside, not on your rug.
Crate train and when she is not in her crate watch her every second. Dogs go thru a routine before they eliminate, some sniff, some circle... when you see that pick him up and run outside and wait. If she goes outside, praise her a ton. Not just a "good dog", throw a party, run around in circles, give her a piece of cooked hotdog.
If you take your eyes off of her and she goes and you don't see her doing it, that is your fault, do not punish her because she will not know why she is in trouble. If you catch her in the act, make a loud noise to stop her and rush her outside.
I cannot tell you how helpful a crate has been in housebreaking my puppy. He has never had an accident in his crate and when I get him out of his crate we go directly outside (I carry him) and he pees. Check out this link for crate training.

Walk them to a certain part of the yard EVERY time until he goes there by himself. Then you only have to pick up stuff in that area. It's worked with our last 2 dogs
When puppies are really young, take them out at least every hour if it's a small dog.

I would try and take him out at least every hour and especially after they eat & drink water. When you are gone put paper down, keep him in a small space like the kitchen or if you bathroom is big enough for him; or try crate training him - you can find how on google or yahoo search.

Every time they stand up, say lets go potty and get them outside to their potty spot. Say good potty or what ever term you want to use when they go in the right spot. It worked for my dogs.
