She's 5yrs old and has had this problem her entire life. We have to put plastic over our furniture, close doors to all the rooms but the cat room, make sure there are no papers/bags/clothes on the floor. Even if the catbox is brand new clean, she still will only poop in it and pee elsewhere. She does not have any illnesses and has always been 100% healthy at the vet. We've used Pinesol and animal urine removal products, but to no avail, she still pees. Any ideas/help?

gee, got some real nice people giving great advice....guy who keeps telling them to rub their nose in it....you should learn a new trick!!
there are more humane ways
1. If she is healthy, take the advice of the person that said change the kind of litter.
2. If you have the option, talk to a vet about changing her food, might be causing blockage.
3. Build her an outside domain...sounds weird but we have a siamese that was peeing all over everything!! My hubby built a caged in area outside for her to go out whenever she pleased. Although she still pooped in her box, she peed outside...very weird. If she shows any interest in going out and playing, which Rocky did, it might be best.
4. Instead of rubbing her nose in it, which is PROVEN not to work (cats don't have a long enough memory to know they peed there...they will only remember when you have caught them in the act)!! Try the squirt bottle. Cats don't like water....and they definately don't like water sprayed on them if they are doing something bad. This works when you catch em in the act or when you see them wandering around "looking" for a spot to go.
5. Put her in the bathroom...same time every day and when you leave (like crate training a dog)~ with the litter box
#3 and #5 were our solutions!! They worked the best!
good luck, it's definately an issue I have dealt with SEVERAL times!!

You need to re-train her, just as if she were a kitten. Lock her up in the bathroom with nothing but a cat box. Cats don't usually like to pee where they sleep. Keep her there until there are no accidents in the bathroom. It may take several weeks. Clean everything and try to get the pee smell out of everything while she's locked up. Once she's not peeing on stuff in the bathroom and using the cat box religiously, let her out, but still lock her up in the bathroom at night and when your gone for about another month, just to reinforce the whole cat box issue. Cats sometimes confuse carpets with cat litter so the best place to potty train is linoleum floors. Good luck.

I am really sorry to hear about your problem. My daughters have two kittens that were spayed a couple months ago because they were having the same problem. They were good at first, but now are urinating on the furniture again. I have a great product called Pet Magic that works on the odor, but I was hoping they would grow out of it. From your story, it sure doesn't sound like it........

I have tried everything that was recommended EXCEPT rubbing thier nose in it. DO NOT DO THAT!!! It works on dogs NOT cats and it will result in worse house soiling. House soiling is the #1 reason cats are owner surrendered. Very sad but unfortunately it is the nature of the beast and some cats never use the box except to poop like my Sabrina. I even took her to a specialist who put her on anti-depressants to help retrain her. Needless to say it didn't work. Plastic works - unless they figure away around it and climb under it. Good luck!! I hope you figure it out - I ended up having to put my baby to sleep. :-(

I can not promise this will stop it but it helped with ours. clean all area with white vinegar. I mean scrub down cats will go back to places that they have went be fore cause they can smell even after you have clean. clean all furniture then wipe it down I keep at least 1 gallon jug at the house. My cat is now getting old she is 16yrs but we had to break her in earlier times

For all cats as well as all dogs. You should have rubbed her nose in it. Still though might not be too late. Once she gets the idea that she doesn't like it then she will start using the litter box.

Look for a cleaner that contains enzymes that will discourage resoiling of the same area. You might also try switching to a different litter.

As much as it hurts I would put her down. You can't have a house that smells like cat pee.
