The worst mistake that parents make today is not to love your children unconditionally.

I saw this last night on a rerun of Third Watch.
The mother said that her daughter couldn't get pregnant because she was 14, and she was letting her daughter have 4-5 sex partners. That's very sad if your parents think the same was a child does.

Being to authoratative or to passive when disciplining. Spanking, hitting and whipping are also big mistakes parents make.
Here is a great bestseller that was on Oprah. Such a great book.

Letting the kids get away with not doing what they are told because the parents are tired and just give in to shut the kids up.

being your child's friend instead of parent. We need to love our kids, but part of being a parent is teaching our children limits and consequences for their actions. Parents are making a terrible mistake when they don't hold their children accountable for their actions

I would say the worst mistakes we do are not paying to much attention to our children, to their friends, to get involve in their lives, and the worst of all its to let them tell you what to do.

Try to be your kids "best" friend, instead of a parent! That is the biggest mistake..

Not giving them an old fashioned spanking where the Good Lord put the extra padding when they need it.
I'm not saying beat the child, but a quick whack on the butt.

i havent had kids, im only 18, moving out soon, but from being a kid, i hate when i dont feel supported. if you dont like/agree with what your kids do dont act like you dont have time to listen to them. take the time to listen to them and their side, if you dont agree with them (thats okay!) give them some other options for what they are thinking. i have great parents, but they sometimes dont take the time to listen to what me and my younger sister think. my moms better and will at least work with me, but dad wont even take the time of day.
another thing.. never under estimate them. the good AND THE BAD. my sister is seemingly perfect. never done anything too bad. until it all came crashing down and she was found out, now no one knows her. she was doing bad things when everyone thought she was perfect
(p.s. spoiling them can be alright. as long as they deserve it)

Lack of Discipline and Structure. I see way too many parents trying to be friends and not a role model.
