Many online schools accept federal financial aid. Congress passed new legislation early this spring opening the door for more insitutions to offer better federal aid packages to their students. Is there a local college or university that you are interested in taking classes at but cannot get there during normal hours, find out if they offer any classes online. Well known online programs would be the University of Phoenix, Bellevue University, but there are many others as well.

The amount of aid you are eligible for will depend on what year you are in school, if you are dependent or independent (based on FAFSA guidelines) and your ability to pay for college as determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is the application for federal and state grants, student loans, and work study opportunities.

I don't think there are many online schools that accept financial aid at this time. I actually looked into that myself recently and was told no by several schools.

I actually work in a financial aid office for an online school. In order to receive title IV (federal aid) the school has to be accredited. Your first course of action should be to ask the school if they're accredited and is title IV aid available?
