Why do dogs have cold noses?

Does it have something to do with their extremely keen sense of smell?

My nose is always cold, and I think it's because I'm a mixed breed (mutt). LOL

Seriously though, a healthy dog has a cold and slightly damp nose. If it's warm or dry, they may be getting sick. Not sure as to why cold = healthy on a dog.

One thing I know is that you can tell if a dog is not feeling well by feeling its nose. If the nose is warm then it is most likely sick or not feeling well... If the dog's nose is cold it's just fine. So it possibly could be that there smell is also involved.

The nose of a healthy dog tends to be moist/wet since it is a type of mucous membrane. As you know, wet things tend to feel cold to the touch, like touching a wet cloth or sponge.

No, they are wet, and wet things feel cold. The very sensitive sense of smell has nothing to do with that.

dogs only sweat from the nose and pads of their feet,is how the cool themselves if not they will over heat,further more is your dogs nose isnt this way you should get him to a vet. its totaly normal

Actually it's a health thing. It means that they are healthy. When it gets warm, that means that they are sick. It's like when we have a fever, we get hot.
