why does everyone here think pantene is so wonderful? it's sold at grocery stores.
would you go the hairstylist for food? we eat.
then why go to the grocery store for shampoo? because they sell it?

yes, i am a hairstylist. a professional hairstylist at that.
i have always used professional hair products, even when i was young. i come from an extremely large (catholic farmers) family and my mom refused to spend the money on grocery store shampoo because it was so expensive.
we would go thru a bottle a week at least of the grocery store stuff. the good stuff lasted an entire month!
she would mix the professional shampoo with water and it worked (still does) the same.

adding water to store shampoo ends up being soapy water.
adding water to professional shampoo ends up the consistancy of store shampoo.

lots of other differences, but this is what my mom dealt with - $$! we had none so mom had to save where she could.

excuse me outlawsister.... what are you talking about?
not all stylists get paid commissions on products. as a matter of fact some (like me) will give the savings to the client so they can have beautiful (not just nice) hair. you must be one of those clients who talks the talk , but when it comes right down to it, you are just an uneducated consumer. how is your brain thinking? have you ever looked at the ingredients? and do you know what each ingredient does and how it reacts to other ingredients? i seriously doubt it.
i do. and i can tell you that grocery store shampoo IS crap.
the cheap shampoo and conditioner have wax and oils that build up on the follicles and cause the hairs to not grow back in when they fall out. you will go bald.

I don't know where you guys shop, but our Wal Mart grocery store doesn't just sell the cheap stuff. I personally love Pantene. I've tried the expensive salon brands, and they don't do anything more than Pantene and other mid priced shampoos and conditioners. Everyone's hair is different, so not all brands are going to work the same on everyone's hair. Paul Mitchell may be great for Jane, but Jennifer doesn't get good results with it.

Just because a person doesn't buy salon priced shampoos doesn't make them uneducated. Hell, if anything it makes them less naive. A bigger pricetag doesn't neccessarily mean you are getting a better product. It just means that you are buying into what the manufacturers (as well as the suppliers) want you to believe. I agree that the more expensive conditioners are thicker, meaning you use less, but you don't have to go to the salon to get the good stuff. If you compare Suave and Pantene, yes, there is a difference, but Salon products aren't like the miracles they promise to be. The stylists would like for you to believe otherwise. It's always nice to get a kickback from selling hyped up products to some silly frilly chick who believes everything she is told.

people go to the grocery store to buy shampoo because it is cheaper. They either don't get their hair done in a salon or don't care. They would rather have dry brittle/slick greasy hair than fork out a couple of more dollars to make their hair look great. I know, I've bought both products--store/salon. Believe me, salon product is much, much better.

I think that the general public is becoming lazier by the day And getting your shampoo at the grocery store is just a matter of convenience.
